free to be you and me is insane because the brothers split off and sam is somewhere being normal and dean. dean he's. well dean has cas. and in hindsight, of course he's got cas. but back then? this is new to them both. cas is budding rebel and dean he's just like. sure I'll go threaten an archangel with you buddy nbd. theyre friends. dean looks at cas and decides yep, that's my ride or die. and they're so committed to each other. im rambling but this episode is THE DESTIEL THESIS STATEMENT ON WHICH EVERYTHING ELSE IS BASED. god.

free to be you and me is an insane episode. we have some of the most iconic destiel moments thus far in the show: when humans want something really really bad we lie, upside down badge, i haven’t laughed like this in years, dean opening up to cas about his dad and reassuring him about his search for god. and then we have sam coping with addiction and being FORCE FED DEMON BLOOD by some psycho ass hunters and the final reveal that he’s lucifer’s true vessel. and as if that’s not enough the next episode is thee emmy-submitted end

sam is gone for one whole episode and dean starts throwing out references to gay couples left and right. he’s like we’re selma and louise! bert and ernie are gay!
