I know we’re going to be flooded with posts about goals for the new year, resolutions just waiting to be broken, and tons of “this is your year” ideas...and I know it bothers many people, but I think that the optimism of those posts is worth it.
Tell me all your goals - hit me up with all your resolutions. I’ll do my best to keep you accountable. I’ll cheer for you when you accomplish all or part of them and I’ll encourage you when you’re struggling to keep going. I hope you’ll do the same for me.
This year is a “big one” - the turning of another decade. So I’ve decided to go all out and set up intentions for the whole year. 20 goals for 2020.
I’ve broken them up into categories: physical, mental, financial, spiritual, and home goals. They’re also split into how long or how often I will be tracking them: year-long, monthly, weekly, daily.
Here they are:
Year-long:
Watch 2 new shows (currently considering Breaking Bad and ???)
Read 20 books: 12 fiction, 4 spiritual, 4 professional development
Get 2 new tattoos: hubby and I are gifting each other a session for Christmas (late obviously lol), so that’s one!
Re-do kitchen: we rent, but I have some ideas for making our kitchen more meal-prep friendly. And more fun to spend time in!
Pay off debt: We have several debts from our younger “less-wise” days, but the focus of this goal is the 3 loans we have. Just over $6000 total to pay down
Monthly:
Tithing: giving to our church monthly
Gym: 20/30 days each month - trying out new classes as I have the opportunity!
Eating: 80/20 healthy eating - planned out monthly.
Savings: monthly deposits into our savings account to build up an emergency fund and help pay down debt faster
“Kondo”: I spent the summer doing the Marie Kondo method to our house (joy of tidying up) - but there are several areas I haven’t finished it in, and I need to rededicate and keep on top of it.
Weekly:
Hair/makeup: 2 new styles per week
Writing: 20 min/day, 4 days/week
Church: This won’t be every week because of the schedule, but I want to attend the 4 classes the church offers to become more active, and then attend Wednesday night services as often as possible (they don’t have them all year)
Weight: I haven’t weighed myself this month. But I’m guessing that with holiday eating I’ve added a few pounds. So my goal for 2020 (tracked weekly) is to lose 40-50 pounds. (Goal weight: 145-150)
Nails: stop biting them. Achieved by 2x per week doing a “mini-mani” for myself. If I keep them trim and pretty, I’m less likely to bite them.
Daily:
Teeth: brush 2x daily and floss 1x (this sounds so ridiculous to have as a goal, but I get so wrapped up in life that I fall asleep without doing it way too often). Also, wear my retainers at least 4 days a week (every day preferred)
Face: wash face 2x daily - whether I wore makeup or not!
Water: 100oz daily. I got a super cool Cirkul water bottle from my sister for Christmas, so that will help! 5x (20oz each) per day and I’m done!
Journal: daily writing. Can be 2 minutes, can be 20. I have a lot of sleep issues (dreams, restlessness) that stems from having an overactive mind and not controlling it. Thus, writing before bed every day.
Quiet time: daily structured time spent reading my Bible and studying.
I’ll update as the year progresses and I hope you will too - I love it when we succeed together. 💜 (PS - my goal posts will all be tagged with FTL2020 for ease of following!)
Here’s to the new Roaring 20’s!! 🎉
Date night adventure!! One of my goals this year is two new tattoos...here’s number 1!!
Weekly weigh-in! It’s a good one this week!!
Lost 2 pounds, for a total of 5.5 since January 1st!!
And lost a little bit of inches on my hips and thighs!
Day 3 of the new year. Time for a check in - so far, I’m really proud of myself overall!!
I have brushed my teeth and flossed every day, washed my face twice a day, done my quiet time, and my journaling.
I did my hair and makeup and nails yesterday for a date night with hubby! 💜 It was so much fun! We did pizza and fries for dinner at a local place and then saw “Knives Out” with popcorn, twix to share, and a drink each. It was really freeing to have the flexibility to enjoy the meal without feeling guilty for my choices.
5/6 healthy meals so far. About to make eggs for breakfast now and make it 6/7!
Check in post! We’re not going to church this morning because we’re all sick 😥 (like hacking, stuffy, sore throat sick). But I did do my quiet time today (forgot yesterday), am on track for all my face and teeth goals, and am not doing too poorly on my clean eating.
Yesterday got a bit away from me food-wise because my oldest and I went out for breakfast (planned) later than intended (not planned), which threw me off from wanting lunch, and then had me overly hungry for dinner. It wasn’t a bad dinner (chicken nuggets, apple, macaroni and cheese, cider), but was not the clean meal that was originally planned. 🤷🏻♀️ no regret, I didn’t go crazy, just back on track today.
Goals for this week: focus on getting in WAAYYY more water 💦 I’ve only been drinking 1-2 bottles each day, and I’m trying for 5 😳 being back at work should help, since the schedule works out for me to drink a bottle during a class period, have a bathroom break and water refill, and then another class 👍🏼
As expected, the scale was up. Not terribly, and easy enough to get back on track.
Surprisingly, a few of my measurements were down. I’ve been a bit more active with the track team this week, so I’m attributing that there. (Thanks @jacqattacq !!)
Weigh In
January 1, 2020 - the first weigh in of the year! I’m going to stick with Wednesday weigh ins because I think it will help keep me accountable to my eating all week.
Starting weight for 2020: 194.7 lbs
Goal weight: 145-150
Pounds to lose: 45-50
