We all love Heartland and Alberta is Heartland country; This has me quite sad, but I am glad that High River is not in immediate danger of this Albertan Fire. Remember Jeff, Georgie’s brother. Yep, he lives in Ft McMurray (not in real life). I have been told that the distance from Calgary/High River  would be like San Diego, Ca to Sacramento so Heartland is safe (for now). But, we should all keep Ft McMurray in our prayers. Fires like this one have ravaged SoCal many times, and the scariness is very real.

The Fire

So, if those of you who follow me don’t know by now, my hometown of Ft. McMurray is literally on fire. Snippets of information put the worst damage so far as neary half the city being destroyed. 

My family and friends are all safe, so far as I know. Thank goodness for Facebook’s safety checkin feature. That’s so awesome. 

I’ve been sitting here for the past 3 hours more or less, numb as to what to do with myself and just holding a silent vigil. No one I know was hurt, or will be hurt, but my emotions are all mourning for a place that, despite it’s problems, was my home for a majority of my life. I can be sentimental to a fault, so when I hear and see places that I knew and enjoyed life in being destroyed I can’t help but feel it personally. In all real senses my childhood is in flames.

Please, if anyone would help with the situation, many organizations are accepting donations in whatever form they can get, from money to clothing to fuel. Stay safe in doing so, though, because despite the tragic feelings going around there are no doubt unscrupulous characters looking to scrape a few dollars off the miserable. Donate to places like the Red Cross, and verify you’re on the right website.
