Don’t put me in charge of slang
“Icing on the cake” means to take something good and make it better. Icing improves what is already tasty (cake).
Something is be “gravy” if it takes something tolerable, if bland (like an overcooked turkey) and makes it acceptable. “My math class is boring. The teacher not taking attendance is just gravy.”
I’d like to see people use salad dressing in the same way. Take something absolutely repulsive, like an endive salad, and smother that shit in Ranch dressing to get something somewhat edible. “Turns out I’m failing that math class I wasn’t going to, but the salad dressing is I can take summer classes to graduate on time.”
