mini Secret of Mana remake review
Haven’t fully beaten it, so just a mini review. I am about halfway through though.
Music, decent remixes of the original 9/10
Graphics, ugh not that great, lots of clipping, it’s not polished like the sprites of the original were 7/10
Story, same old Mana 10/10
Voice Acting 6/10 It’s not great, but I guess having every NPC talk is kinda neat, maybe the Japanese voices are better
new “easier” menus will take over a hour to get used to if you’re a mana fan, and magic will take another hour to get used to as well because of it. The quick button mapping for 2 items/weapons is neat, but wish I could just cycle through all of them with the buttons instead.
YOUR GAME IS GONNA CRASH. It’s gonna crash a lot too. Only once you get magic though cause it’s the magic casting that causes the game crashing errors. Yeah THAT THING YOU HAVE TO LEVEL UP TO LVL 8.9 CRASHES THE GAME WHILE TRYING TO LEVEL IT! Thankfully the auto save for each room you enter will save you from killing the disk in a fit of rage. Also chaining spells is harder than in the original because of the new lag it has in fights on having numbers show up. You can’t string together spells easily because it waits longer than just having the element show up and disappear.
BTW your auto save is the green one at the bottom of your load screen, didn’t realize this till after my 3rd crash.
There is new little “character growth” cut scenes each time you stay at a inn. At first they’re charming, then you realize it’s just fluff fodder and eating up time you could be out trying to level magic.
I wish that after you beat it, it would unlock “classic mode” and let me play the good version that doesn’t crash, clip monsters into walls, or have bad voice acting.
remake of mana is a 6/10 with the current crashes. Once crashes are fixed it could be a 7.5/10
