Listen something so annoying about neglect is all the little things no one taught me so I’ll think I’m doing something normal and then I see someone else do it and it’s like oh…. Oh no… I’m doing this wrong
I went to the dentist the other day and the lady there was so nice and she told me loads of stuff about how to floss and like actually how to do it and she was telling me how you’re never supposed to skip meals especially before the dentist because people won’t eat before a appointment but then they get stomach aches or headaches so then they’re in pain during the appointment! Or people need to eat and take medicine but they won’t so then they’re in pain and also in danger because they skipped medicine they needed! And she was putting like extra toothbrushes in my bag and extra floss and chapstick when she saw my lips were dry oh my god she was so sweet I told her like yeah my mom tries to tell me not to eat before appointments and that never sounded right to me and she’s like yes! Please always eat before you come here! And she asked if I wanted fluoride or not and when I asked what fluoride did(like I know it protects teeth but like how) she explained it all to me saying how it’s a protective layer on your teeth that’s hard and it keeps your enamel harder so cavities are less likely to happen and she even went and checked if my insurance covered it for me she was so nice to be dude alot of times
I get way nervous at doctors appointments and I’ll act like a kicked puppy just because there’s like a adult older then me with authority in the room talking to me and telling me what to do so I kind of expect stuff to get weird like with my mom and it does sometimes cause some doctors are mean but this lady was nice she had blue eye liner too! And she even taught me how to floss I got way off topic but that was the whole point of this she taught me how to floss and I didn’t know how to properly I’ve been doing it wrong my entire life cause my parents didn’t teach me but this lady taught me and she was so sweet and patient but still honest and that’s really good at the end I thanked her for being helpful and she said oh of course because it’s her job!
I just flossed the first time correctly and it hurts a little but I used the floss the lady gave me and it made me happy she explained that when people don’t floss correctly regularly enough their gums aren’t used to it so they come here and it hurts and bleeds because their gums are sensitive from never being flossed right so flossing right also helps with sensitivity it doesn’t fix it completely but the more you floss the less it should hurt and to use the string and not the picks because the string is better to get into all the crevices and you have to get all around that little flesh triangle between your teeth and you should be able to wiggle the floss to the middle of the base of the tooth because there’s actually a lot of room around there and the root of the tooth is less wide then the actual tooth itself so there’s lots of room your floss should wiggle through
I found a picture showing it and also she said you’re actually supposed to brush your teeth for four minutes and not two minutes like everyone says because the study that said two minutes is old and inaccurate she explained how everyone’s used to doing two minutes but you want four so you can really focus on your teeth instead of rushing through and also don’t forget the back molars angle the brush at 45 degrees to get back there
I told her I used biotene mouthwash too because I’m sensitive to normal mouthwashes and I saw biotene as an option at the dentist once and it didn’t burn and she said that’s really good! And biotene is recommended for dry mouth and sensitive mouths so there’s that too if anybody needed to know
so morals? Don’t skip meals before dentist appointments especially don’t skip meds it’s ok if you go and your teeth haven’t been freshly brushed as long as you don’t skip meals it’s ok check to make sure you’re actually flossing right use the string not the picks floss around the flesh triangle brush for four minutes not two don’t forget the back angle the brush at 45 degrees to get back there use biotene if you have dry mouth or sensitive mouth And the chapstick she gave me has sunscreen in it too? Based and don’t be afraid to relearn things correctly or learn basic stuff you’re already supposed to know it’s ok if you didn’t get it the first time or if no one taught you right and flossing is very uncomfortable and sometimes painful but over time it shouldn’t hurt or bleed your gums should get used to it!
Learning to floss on 1,273 days left, this is very important!
