My experience as a fan of Baten Kaitos
For those specifically interested on how I relate to the Baten Kaitos fandom, I'll reiterate and expand on some of the ideas in my last post and include a few more.
I've been a fan of Baten Kaitos for quite some time. My first memory of the Baten Kaitos series was when I was in grade school (possibly in 2004 or 2005 when I was in grade 6 or 7). I remember going to Blockbuster with my family (gosh I miss that place) and I saw this game with a really cool cover. After reading the description and seeing the art on the back, I just HAD to play this game! I remeber playing quite a lot of it. I think I just got passed Mira when I had to return the game. I was in love with the graphics, artwork, characters, story and music of this game. To date, this series is my favourite by far out of all Game series. Subsequently, I got my friend interested in the game and he really enjoyed it too. Over some time I would re-rent the game and at one point my friend bought the game and I was able to borrow his copy. I remeber having the worst luck with The Chaotic Trio (but who didn't?) as well as Geldoblame. I was head over heels for this game, although I wouldn't beat the game until sometime near the end of High School (where I actually got ahold of my own copy).
Now when I heard of Baten Kaitos Origins coming out (which I'm not entirely sure how I did, I don't think there was a commercial, but I could be wrong) I was ecstatic! (Maybe it was possible that I learned about it online, but I'm not too sure of where I would have seen the news since I never followed game sites) I remember getting this game for Christmas of 2006 and from my grandparents no less. Anyways I loved this game when I initially played it, but I felt it had a bit too much focus on the Empire (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I just hated having to go through Mintaka so much LOL). I was really sad when I found out my favourite continent Mira wasn't in the game. At any rate, a big story from this game was how I had so much trouble with that blasted Holoholo bird! You fight right at the start of disc 2 and it was safe to say I was very much underlevelled (and I din't have a save file before switching discs). That same friend who I introduced to the series had a copy of this game too and he came over to beat the blasted bird for me. He then did something unspeakable! He had his memory card in my gamecube and he saved over my sole save file! 0_0 I was devastated! I was so angry I actually forced my friend to replay the entire game up until that point using my name for the Guardian Spirit. LOL
In terms of being in the fandom, I was part of a BK forum whih sadly appears to be dead now....I am an artist though, and I have done a few Baten Kaitos fanarts over the years: http://destron23.deviantart.com/gallery/27734973
Anyways I remember hearing about a possible Baten Kaitos for the DS, but that never occured. I just REALLY want a Baten Kaitos 3. It's sad that not many people know about this franchise because I'm sure any lover of RPGs would love this series. I actually own the artbook to the first game and another thing I REALLY wish we had was an artbook for BKO (as an artist, you have no clue how much I want to see Marno's actual design and get better looks at other chracters). I really wish I knew how to rip game models for this reason.
I'm not entirely sure what I will post on this blog, but I recently learned how to use an emulator and I'm replaying Origins on it. It's about as HD as it can get and I've been taking Screenshots (I also have a savepoint at every major area in the game, although I'm just about to start Tarazed). Sorry for the long read, but I thought I'd give some insight into my experience with BK. :)
