south london forever, florence + the machine
I can’t worry too much about the everyday things. Otherwise I’d lose touch with my own world, that helps me as an artist, but it’s frustrating for the people around me. I’m vaguely functional, but there’s always something slightly off.
Making music, it's such a personal thing. You're always making music; you're making music that pleases you, and you kind of think, you know, 'who the fuck else would listen to this?' And so it's really amazing to me how many people have taken it so to heart. The music is so euphoric, as a way of battling the words. It's like an exorcism, beating it out with drums, shake this demon out, it's so visceral because the melancholy has to be drummed out. I can't let it sit inside me. Everything that I do is about reaching that sense of like euphoric rush and in all the music it's about hitting that moment where you think nothing matters and you could never be so happy in your entire life, or you could never be so sad. It's all about extremes of emotions and it's about getting yourself ready to go through there. There are things I struggle to talk about face-to-face. I'm not a confrontational person. But the great thing about music is that it allows you to do talk about those things to a huge group of people.
It would be too frightening for me to consider myself a role model. But I like the idea of not being afraid of letting your imagination rule you, to feel the freedom of expression, to let creativity be your overwhelming drive rather than other things.
I’m completely in love with the world but also terrified of it. It creates some overwhelming feelings. Wanting to battle out that joy and fear is part of my music. Music is my way out. I keep things locked up and never say anything. I guess in order to say something to one person, I have to sing it to a couple of thousand. It doesn’t make for healthy relationships.

Shout out to the fuckyeahflorencewelch blog who see's what's wrong with Florence wearing a native Indian headdress as someone who isn't native Indian while the rest of this stupid white privileged website tries to condone it by saying she looked cute in it. Our heroes aren't perfect and I love Florence so much, but what she did was wrong
