He was tugging on the hem of his sweater, the material of it feeling unfamiliar, more heavy and scratchy than their regular Starfleet uniforms. "I do not see why we would have to wear these inside for warmth. The enterprise is equipped with a functioning thermal regulation system, as you are well aware. If you are freezing, I can simply change the temperature to a higher setting."
McCoy put on another candle, only throwing Spock a playfully offended look over his shoulder. "But Spock! Sweaters are tradition. It's not about the sweater’s function, but about the mood."
Spock raised an eyebrow. "The 'mood'?"
"The Christmas mood!", McCoy replied, grabbing for what felt like the 20th candle. Spock did not reply and instead decided to watch the doctor go about his business. He had no idea where all these candles even came from.
"Leonard, I do not think these candles give off adequate lighting. Would it not be more effective to turn up the room's brightness?" McCoy turned around fully this time, his eyebrow raised, challenging Spock to answer the question himself.
Spock let out a little huff. "The mood. Understood."
"Honestly Spock", McCoy groused, "Do Vulcans not have any festivities for which they decorate and dress up? No christmas where you get to put a shiny plastic star at the top of the christmas...", he trailed off, thinking of Vulcan's 'vast' flora, and grimaced, "...rock." With a sigh he scratched the back of his neck. "No, you probably haven't."
"Putting out little objects with no further purpose than enhancing the aesthetic value sounds unnecessary, and I do not see why we would make a habit out of decorating stones." He saw the doctor's face fall a bit during his explanation, seemingly starting to regret ever having suggested 'a cozy christmas evening' together. Inacceptable. "However..." The Vulcan turned to look around in his room, searching for a certain object. "When meditating, I like to put on incense. To... set the mood, so to speak." He finally found what he was looking for and put the little bowl on a podest.
"Of course!" McCoy's face lit up. "Incense, that's a wonderful idea Spock." He grabbed his mug full of hot chocolate that he insisted was also part of a perfect winter evening, which Spock had to decline politely. Taking a careful sip, he watched the vulcan light up the incense sticks. When that was done and a spicy, herbal aroma wafted through the air, he took in the room, admiring their handiwork. "It's perfect."
Spock walked over to him and slowly snaked his arm around the doctor's waist. "I must admit, this was one of your nicer ideas. My room has never felt so...", he glanced over to the man at his side. "...homely."
McCoy smiled at him fondly. "See? You should listen to my ideas more often." "Maybe I should", the vulcan replied with a nod. "Maybe I am even going to let you decorate a rock next time."
The joyful laugh Leonard let out warmed Spock more than any candles and sweater ever could.
It’s the last weekend before the end of our event, Summer of Spones, and as one last hoorah for the summer (and the month), thought it’d be nice to hear from you all!

Whenever it’s snowing, I stop and stare to look at the sky and watch the snowflakes fall, utterly fascinated and mesmerized by their movement. I like to imagine that Spock feels the same, since I don’t think he ever got the chance while on vulcan, and Sarpeidon didn’t really give them the chance to stop and appreciate the view.
So here’s Spock enjoying the snow, and McCoy enjoying the view. :>

Valentines Day is coming up this weekend, and while not everyone celebrates it, it seemed to be a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation for this ship, these characters, and more!
These times also make it harder to connect to people in person, so it, too, felt like a good opportunity to help us connect as a fandom and foster a sense of community.

So once again, everyone, a warm welcome to our two new mods! If things go well, I’ll talk to them and we may ask for more, depending on how they’re doing and how they feel the flow is with the blog. We’re a team now!
I have said in response to asks a few times that I would pass the torch along if I felt I couldn’t run this blog.
Needless to say, Real Life sucks and gets in the way. But I still want to be a part of this community, as I tend to go through fandom in phases and Spones is still one of my top OTPs.
So! I’m trying something new and would like two people to be active admins for fuckyeahspones.
That being said, I still want to be head honcho of the blog and oversee activities.
I would like two people who are active in the Spones community and are continually looking for fics, pictures to reblog (NOT STEAL), etc, and adhere to the rules of the blog:
Play nice with other ships. We’re not here to proclaim we’re the best. Only create an environment in which other Spones fans can flock to and enjoy themselves.
Be active. This is very hypocritical coming from me, I fully admit. That’s why I’m looking for people who have the time to do what I can’t.
Do not steal artwork or graphics. In my very early tumblr days, when I first started this, I offended a couple blogs I liked very much by unintentionally stealing their graphics. The post I made about it has been in the sidebar and will remain in the sidebar, and can also be read here. I’ve taken far greater care in making sure the image hasn’t originated from a blog first before I source. I ask that anyone else do the same.
Encourage submissions -- we’re always open to them!
Generally? Just don’t be a dick. This blog was created out of love and a want to share the love of the ship. Not who’s a better Spones fan, or why Spones is better, etc etc. We’re all just here to have a great time.
If you’re interested, please send in an ask. For now, this is a first come, first-serve basis. If you don’t get it, don’t despair; we may be in need of more admins in the future for a steady flow of material.
I will be keeping tabs on what goes on on this blog, as I will still own it. If I have concerns, I will contact you privately, personally, and professionally. If there are repeated violations, unannounced hiatuses, or rudeness to others, your position will be revoked.
