Sebastian stan x reader
part 1.
a.n : this is one hell of a slow burn btw
The rhythmic pattern of the raindrops against the windshield made Sofias’ head spin with sleepiness, and her eyes almost stinging and your head limp, she was beyond tired, and the blaring lights passing from other cars burned in the back of her eyelids. But what kept Sofia awake more than anything was the constant murmur of the engine and the even louder and more annoying hum of the person driving it. Sebastian's fingers constantly tapped out of rhythm against the steering wheel, bopping his head lightly to his made-up tune, Sofia deeply sighed, hoping to catch his attention and make him aware that right now he was the most irritating and irrelevant person on earth to her, but he only continues, even louder and more obnoxiously with a sly smirk on his face.
“You know if we have to live with each other from now on you're gonna have to learn to shut up,” Sofia said, coming out in more of a bitchy tone than she intended, not that she minded at all. Sebastian didn't reply, only let out a laugh and turned on the radio, to which Sofia immediately turned it off.
“Likewise you are going to have to stop being a spoiled brat,” He replied, putting the radio back on, but turned the volume down t a quiet hum, blocking out the now torrential rain dropping on the car roof. Sofia didn't recognise the smooth song on the radio, but she listened nonetheless, hearing the slow, calm beat made her eyes finally flutter and her head falls back onto the less than comfortable seat.
When she woke, the sun was breaking over the countryside, hills and field filled with the greenest grass and yellow wheat, and the sun's reflection upon them and made the land look something out a perfect photograph. The radio was still playing quietly, to quiet for her to hear the words but enough to feel the music vibrate the small speakers beside her.
“Have we been driving all night?” She asked, stretching her arms and legs as much as the small car space would allow her, catching the attention of Sebastian, who took a while to comprehend her message, only relying on a small grunt that Sofia only took as a begrudging ‘yes’. While Sofia lent her head back against the shaking window, she let out deep sigh, thinking about her mother, her brother and the fact that if she had just moved with her grandparents across the country like she was supposed to do, she wouldn't be stuck in this car with a basic stranger; her life was a mess. Well, technically she didn't exist anymore, a whole fiasco with a car crash, now she was ‘Jessica’. And before Sofia could stop, a small sob escaped her lips as her eyes welled up with water, trying her hardest to gain control of her emotions, not wanting to break down front of a stranger, more than once; but it was too late, because Sebastian stopped the car, turning his body towards the girl that was now cradling her knees, looking so small and vulnerable. He didn't say anything, because he knew that she wouldn't want him to say anything; he doubted she even remembered he was here. As they both sat in silence, Sebastian couldn't help but admire how beautiful Sofia was, and how amazingly beautiful her life would've been if her family had any inkling of normality running through their veins, instead of or heroin and alcohol. Sebastian knew that he couldn't get attached, especially not in any romantic way, it was risky and dangerous, and in this line of work, if you took risks, you died; but he couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth and comfort when he looked into her deep green eyes.
"I'm sorry," Sebastian whispered, not fully knowing what he should say to her, in any other situation he would avoid talking about the prohibited subject and get on with the protection programme, but he knew that she couldn't fully resolve her mind unless she talked to someone about it.
"Why are you sorry? You don't even know me," Sofia retorted, still not giving Sebastian a lenient attitude. She was being harsh and she knew it, and she wanted to apologise to him but her stubbornness wouldn't let her.
"Doesn't mean i don't care about you, and you are crying in my car so of course I'm going to say something,"
"I'm not crying,"
"Hey, it ok you know. You don't have to be strong right now, I'm here for you, not because it's my job, but because this whole protection programme would be a lot smoother if we got on," Sebastian sighed, noticing the way her breathing slowed the more he talked, as if she was becoming accustomed to his voice, to which he nearly blushed.
"Ok, ok. I'm sorry, i just can't believe this is happening, i have to leave everything behind, everyone i love, just because of one mistake i didnt even make," Sofia started t open up, now relaxing her body, and allowing herself to face Sebastian, but too worried that if she made eye contact she might break down and flood the car with her emotions.
"It's alright darling, well get to the house and sleep, and then we can go through everything in the morning, we both need to rest," He said, gently leaning his hand over to hers, resting over the top and rubbing her smooth skin with his thumb.
The engine of the car roared to life a few minutes after, and now the radio was dimmed down to almost silence. Sofia went back to looking out the left-hand side window, a small and grateful smile on her face. At last, the agency had the decency to set her up with someone attractive.
