OTTAWA, CANADA -- Canadian indie animation studio 'Mercury Filmworks' (MF), which has been known to work on the likes of Disney's The Ghost and Molly McGee and Netflix's Hilda officially secured animation rights to produce its entire colorful web series of "Pretty Pretty Please, I Don't Want to Be a Magical Girl". 'Kiana Mai Khansmith' was the online creator of the said series.

OneNETnews was the first to get the scoop in the early morning hours (Dumaguete local time), as noted after the end credits of Episode 2 on YouTube, and also tape-delayed telecast the same Sunday afternoon (February 1st, 2026) on Negros Island TV8 (DYDZ-DTV) in Dumaguete City, right before ABS-CBN News's TV Patrol Regional with Annie Fe Perez of DYAE-TV's ALLTV16: Cebu via Kapamilya Channel. This may soon cease to be an indie project for Khansmith within the next year or two (2), as animation requires a significant amount of time.

It has been mentioned that each online episode is about 11 minutes long on YouTube (Google's parent company 'Alphabet') with a possible schedule to release one new episode every month, bi-weekly, or weekly in its rotation. Online show creator and former Disney Television Animation (DTVA) storyboard artist & director said in part: "Animation is hard. Especially for shows with [Canadian] animation as good as Hilda, [et al. As a former animation-related roles at DTVA, we] look forward to seeing Episode 1 fully animated by Mercury Filmworks", said Khansmith.

With MF taking over the helm, audiences of IDWTBAMG can expect a high-quality, professionally animated series that captures the aesthetic of Khansmith and the advantage of a studio with a track record of quality animation. This development, as a shift towards full studio production of the show in Canada, is the most thrilling new chapter of the series, and audiences abroad will be watching with impatience to see how the new partnership works in the coming months.

Alright now that I'm done playing catch up with this event, I wanted to post the whole series all together. So here is my full attempt at Davekat Week 2025:

The series is finally done!! A month late and 3 prompts short but honestly I'm still so happy with how it turned out ^-^

Also, the series is finished but one of the fics might not be! I'm still toying with the idea of adding another couple of chapters to "A Dark and Stormy City Mystery..." Please let me know if you'd like that to happen!
