Big fish in a big pond

Why isn’t he happy then? Well, that’s a very good question.

Maybe it’s his desire to get even bigger. And I don’t mean the money. I mean the words. Words are enough to change the world. But at a time when everybody is speaking, it’s not easy to be heard. Or to find the right ears.

Or maybe it is. But then hearing is not action. Maybe the choice of words is not right. Let’s admit, nobody would expect meaningful words from a fish, whatever size.

And if the pond is actually too big? What if the words can never be big enough to change even the tiniest currents, the swing of the seaweeds, the tracks of the shells? What can the fish do if his only talent is words?

Maybe he is not big at all? Yes, maybe he is a small fish in a small pond, and everything just seems bigger than it is. Maybe the pond is not even a pond. An aquarium of artificial freedom and dreams. And then why grow big if it’s not even the right place? Is there a right place?

What does the pond matter at all, if it might just be a birds’ world beyond the surface?

How can I fucking sleep when most nights I continue to have the same damn nightmare about you? The fact that I still have it is a constant reminder that I care so deeply about you. A constant reminder that I love you with all of my being. And then on the nights I don't have the nightmare I have the good dream about you. How can I ever fucking move forward if there is this constant reminder of you. That you aren't here. That I want you here. Do I ever even cross your mind? Do you even care about me at all?
