Part 8: To add, white people are the ones who hold the power in the United States. So, with them being the dominant group, the Eurocentric system called cissexism is the mainstream, hence the term cisnormativity. White supremacy may seem contrary with Brevard County having a few people of color as authority figures, such as Mayor Capote of Palm Bay who is Afro-Cuban and Eastern Florida State College trustee Vice Chairman Moses Harvin who is black (Reed 2015). However, white supremacy favors individuals of subordinate groups who do not challenge their system. For those reasons, people of color who are elected or appointed to positions of power generally accept eurocentrism, and thus cisnormativity. To add, the people of color authority figures usually have cisgender privilege, but never white privilege, making them the ideal tokens for the white supremacy to exploit as a front representing a supposed equitable society.
