one of bakugo's tells is that if he's feeling the emotion of a quiet moment between the two of you, he slow-blinks like a cat
cats crave emotional presence, not physical proximity, they need to know you actually care & see them.. researchers in Milan discovered cats are far more attuned to their owner's emotional states than we ever realized—they don't just co-exist with us, they read us!? They pick up on our stress levels, our distraction, our emotional presence/absence. And when we are physically there but emotionally checked-out, they feel it, the study used s/t called the Secure Base Test. This was originally designed for children, it showed cats with emotionally available owners showed secure attachment—they explored confidently, checked-in regularly with their person, and viewed them as a source of comfort. Cats with emotionally unavailable owners clung desperately, or disengaged entirely. Pause before you reject or absentmindedly toss their toy across the room or ignore the slow blinks for scrolling on your phone, this is registered as a form of rejection which over time will create lasting distance bc cats are more dignified than dogs, they will test/reach-out but when these attempts consistently go unanswered they stop—they learned that their efforts don't matter.
Cultivating the Capacity to be Fully Present
‘Our society would have us believe that inner satisfaction depends on our success and achievement. Yet struggling to “get somewhere” keeps us perpetually busy, stressed-out, and disconnected from that essential inner resource - our ability to be fully present - which could provide a real sense of joy and fulfillment. Our life is unsatisfactory only because we are not living it fully, because instead we are pursuing a happiness that is always somewhere else, other than where we are right now…
Cultivating the capacity to be fully present - awake, attentive, and responsive - in all the different circumstances of life is the essence of spiritual practice and realization. Those with the greatest spiritual realization are those who are “all here,” who relate to life with an expansive awareness that is not limited by any fixation on themselves or their own point of view. They don’t shrink from any aspect of themselves or life as a whole.’
- John Welwood, Ordinary Magic, Everyday Life as Spiritual Path.
Your kitten is not being greedy, unless you are underfeeding it, rather it is fulfilling its internal drive to hunt down prey each day; so if you're not providing your cat with some realistic hunting game then expect this kind of behaviour to surface during meal time
C01: TB does NOT beg, but if I give him a lil piece of meat and he SEES where it came from: for example I was eating some chicken yesterday and gave him a lil piece AS I was eating it—he kept staring at me like: "my god man...." BUT if I open a can of tuna while he's sleepin and THEN find him and give him a piece, he cannot discern from whence it came and will not beg.. so I'm learning lmao :D Oooh so cute, I'm melting!
May I have your undivided attention, please?
