If you joined us at Gather by D'Amico in the Walker Art Center this past Thursday, you were lucky enough to enjoy complimentary tastings of the Twin Cities most lauded beer by Fulton Brewery.

Mike Salo, Fulton's head brewer, made an appearance sharing his tips and tricks on the cultivation of Fulton's most popular beers: The Lonely Blonde, Sweet Child of Vine and War & Peace. With the opening of a new facility and 10 brewers in his charge, Mike's pace is hectic, but he says, "It's nice get out from behind-the-scenes and talk to people about our beers."

As the featured brewer-in-residence for September, Mike Salo's beers will be available on the Gather drink menu every Thursday from 5 - 9pm. Our favorite? The Sweet Child of Vine IPA. Any one who likes a hoppy beer is sure to savor every sip.

The scoop on Fulton's featured beers at Gather:

Lonely Blonde:  The Lonely Blonde wears a delicate fragrance of German noble hops, and slips a touch of white wheat between American pale and crystal malts for a smooth, sensuous body, fair complexion, and a pleasantly lacy white head. Crisp carbonation slinks the Lonely Blonde quickly away, and you’re left with nothing but a slight lingering sweetness as you contemplate how The Lonely Blonde can be so beautiful on so many levels.

Sweet Child of Vine:  Move over grapes. We’re celebrating the world’s most glorious vine. Generous quantities of CTZ and Glacier hops are added throughout the boil. Then, late in fermentation, we infuse the Sweet Child with another dose of Glaciers, imparting a bouquet of hop aroma that veritably bursts forth upon serving. But don’t let all this talk of hops mislead you. The Sweet Child has a serious malt backbone to stand up to all those hops, creating a delightful balance that will keep you coming back for more. It’s an IPA, Fulton-style.

War and Peace:  Fulton War and Peace is a Russian Imperial Stout conditioned with whole bean Peace Coffee in the fermentation tank. It’s an epic work of beer, but unlike the novel, this beer is brief and fleeting, appearing just once a year in February. Historic quantities of chocolate malt and roast barley clash over a field of dark roast Peace Coffee beans. Like Tolstoy’s masterpiece, it may take some time to finish and require some thought along the way. But by the end, we think you’ll find yourself better for the effort.
