Hmmmmm I feel like Corbeau would be the manager of a branch library (like a neighborhood library) and he would run that shit SO WELL and he would be the manager you call in when someone is contesting or complaining about a fine. Because like yeah, sometimes we just erase the fine! Especially if it's been a long time or the person is genuinely apologetic or something. But if you're an ass about it, then no :):):):):):) And I think he would be a manager that his staff trust to make that distinction (because there are few things more infuriating than when a customer is being a dick to you and then your manager bends over backwards for them). Also he's not even the library director (the head of the entire system), but he's weirdly good at getting donors and convincing city council to give us the funding we need. Because good god do we need the budget.

Philippe would be his assistant manager, of course, and he would be the one who works some desk shifts and also the one you call in if shit hits the fan (which it does in libraries, way more often than you think--my library is bigger than most, but the fact that we sometimes have like 5 documentable incidents a day should tell you something). He's also the guy you call in when a patron has been creepy to other patrons or to staff. He will absolutely show them the door.

Paxton would be the new hire who doesn't have a degree but just kinda needed something and figured that libraries would help people and be kinda chill. (He was right about the helping people. Wrong about the chill.) He's part time and has two other jobs, so he's in and out, but he gets the hang of it pretty quick.

Just remembered your question was if they would LIKE it, lmao. Hmmmm I think Corbeau would enjoy the on-the-ground work more than the administrative stuff, but he's good at the administrative stuff and also he can see how important it is (and how easily someone else could fuck things up both for his staff and his patrons), so he'd keep at it. Philippe would really like his job, I think--he'd enjoy being able to support both Corbeau and the staff, and he'd like the practical community support. I feel like he did something else shadier and/or more physical before this, and he thought this would be boring, but it's wild enough that he still gets enrichment. Paxton would probably enjoy it more as a job than a career, but he'd like his coworkers!

And hmmmmmmmm I have been having thoughts about a human AU! I think Corbeau would be either a generic "businessman" (and not in an "i don't feel like worldbuilding" way--it is very vague and everyone else in-universe is very confused about how vague it is) or a researcher into different types/sources of poison. Corbeau’s moral ambiguity re: his career is very important to me, so he'd have to be appropriately shady. Philippe would still be his assistant/bodyguard, and hear me out: Paxton would ALSO be his assistant/bodyguard, but more subtly, so that most people don't notice. Someone thinks oh, Philippe is out on lunch, I will ambush this asshole and his nerdy assistant, except that nerdy assistant is surprisingly strong and surprisingly competent and suddenly the assailant is on the ground. Because Philippe might be his right hand, but Paxton is his left. (Which is a line i am absolutely going to use in a fic one day hehehe.)
