A Short Get-Away to Eagle Hills
The most updated event i write perhaps. I went camping last week!!
My office friends wanted to hold an outing event before the end of this year. It was so hard to find the dates that all of people could join in, but finally the date was set up. Just less than half of the employees who joined the event including me, as I didn’t have any appoinment on the date of the event. So yeah, here we go!!
The last time i went camping was when i was in the first year of high school, in 2007. It was not a fun camping though, because basically it was like an initiation for the new students. All of the female students were gathered in a tent. Huh, it was really bad, lol. Back to the camping event i joined last week. It was so different compare to the previous one i experienced. This one was totally fun.
Day 1 (30 November 2019)
We rented a minibus to go to the camp that located at Eagle Hills, Megamendung, East Java. Starting point was at our office. We arrived at the place after 3 hours long trip! Finally, smelling some fresh air after my lungs been contamined with bad pollution of Jakarta.
As we didn’t have a rundown for the event, so we did everything as we pleased. The first thing to do when we arrived was hanging out at a cafe, eating Indomie!! There was a cafe at the place that opened from morning until 6 pm.
We checked our tent, there were 3 tents that could accommodate 4 people in each tent. One tent for the boys, and the the other two for the ladies. I went praying at Rumah Kayu as my mukenah was accidentally left somewhere around. Rumah Kayu is an office where the tenants could ask anything they need there.
Okay, so the next thing we did after eating and did nothing was going to a river down below. It kept raining at the place. But it was just a short-raining. We explored the road that filled with tall trees, stones, and thatch all the way to the river. So fun! Been long time no adventuring such places.
Finally, we found the river!! It was a small river that was still untouched by a lot of people. Kinda a private river, if i can say. It was raining as we arrived at the river, so we protected ourselves from the rain under the trees that covered the river. But, a bad thing happened to meeeeee. There were 2 leeches stuck on my feet. OH EM GEH. I was panicked and tried to pulled it out from my feet but my friend shouted to not pulling it. Since my friends were mostly smoker so that they brought ciggar, and put the tobacco to the leeches until it released by itself from my freaking foot. OH FINALLY THANK GOD. I was freaked out, holy Lord.
I drowned my feet a quite long time inside the river and was standing barefoot. I put my socks and shoes on immediately to protect my feet from that disgusting creature, iwh.
We went back to the tent as the rain stopped. We all took shower. The toilet was okay, quite clean, the water was so cold but fresh. My plan after taking shower was sleeping since i lacked of sleep and tired after going to the river, lol. While the other pals were hanging out at an open ballroom above. I slept for 2 hours. It was a good sleep, I felt comfortable sleeping at the tent as there were beds inside.
As I woke up, my friends were preparing to grill fish as the dinner time coming soon. Oh, fyi, we were provided food (3 times), water, and some snacks by the provider. Yet, we brought our own food since we wanted to have a festive dinner, lol. There was a simple grilled tool provided by them. The food they served was taste good though.
After our stomach filled with a bunch of food, we held a bonfire party beside our camps. But, there were a bunch of big ants. and THEY BITED!! they bited my feet as well, IT REALLY PAIN. I changed my flip-flop sandals to sneakers to protect my feet. I need to keep moving and stomping the ground to prevent them going up to my feet, Hul.
Back to the bonfire party. We were singing and dancing (i was basically doing a documentary though, lol). As the bonfire went off, the next thing we did was kinda sharing about everything we felt and thought regarding the company, work, or office colleague. It was so heartwarming. As it finished, we went back to our tent to get some sleep. It was so cold during the night. We were given sleeping bags by the provider though.
Day 2 (1 December 2019)
I woke up earlier compare to my friends because an intern student woke me up and asked me to escort her up to the toilet since it was still 5 am, she was afraid alone. It’s time for me to do the subuh prayer though. I couldn’t sleep again after it, i did a morning skincare routine instead, lol. I went to the ballroom alone to charge my camera’s and handphone’s batteries.
Some of friends finally woke up and went jogging. I was a lazy-ass when it comes to exercise, lol. So i just walked around, taking pics. And finally, breakfast came! It’s just like a regular breakfast when we stayed at resorts, the menu was Fried Rice aka Nasi Goreng! Good things, some food from the last night was still existed, so i had a quite heavy breakfast, lol.
We arranged our stuffs then went bathing and packing for the last time. There were other people down below who rented about 5 tents. So, it’s kinda crowded to take a bath in the morning. It was so chill to take a bath in the morning at the place. But it was so freaking good, huh i love the weather and the water.
We took photos for the last time in front of our tents, it was so photogenic since the scenery was pretty. Overall, i enjoyed the camping so much. It was hassle free as everything we needed was provided at the place. I would like to have that kinda camping experience again in the future. The unfortunate thing when we went back to Jakarta was we got stuck in traffic for 3 hours as we got our way blocked since the other side one was opened. So, it took around more than 5 hours to reach our finish point which was our office building. Heoll. That’s all that’s it. See you at my next writings!!

I tried twice to publish a review at Amazon, but I was rejected both times. I realize my thoughts on Gabe's book are not great, but still -- a rejection from Amazon? Is it that bad?
I went to church camp every year as a kid, and feel that gives me the authority to say that Gabe Durham characterizes the summer camp experience really well. His insights are funny, his characters recognizable. He describes the activities and the social intricacies and the dynamics behind everything. The book becomes more than nostalgia and offers a keen understanding of how people interact -- whether or not they've ever gone camping or made arts and crafts.
Thanks (again) for nothing, Amazon!
