Don’t forget that Shane is an only child. Yes, I think that a lot of his perfectionist and obsessive tendencies probably come from his autism, but he probably also felt a lot of pressure - whether explicit or not - from his parents to be The Best growing up. Yes, Ilya has very different childhood trauma, and that’s important too. But don’t underestimate how even well-meaning, loving parents who provide for their child can still fuck them up psychologically by putting all of their eggs in one basket. The one basket being a Human Being rather than, like, a retirement account.
