Whilst I only really post about Sea Otters there are actually 14 different species of Otter!
They vary wildly in size, shape, likeability (I'm biased), geographical location, and assumptively every other factor that dictates them as separate subspecies.
So to celebrate all Otters on World Otter Day to raise awareness this and maybe some of the next few posts are some fun facts about otters generally and comparatively (because everyone knows that comparison is universally a harbinger of unity and joy) !
An Etymology Fact!
The word ' Otter ' comes from the Old English word ' Oter ' or ' Otor ', which (along with its Indo-European cognates) stems from the Indo-European word ' *wódr̥ ' which is also the root of the word 'water'.
I would additionally argue that this links to ' oiter ' and therefore means I am furthering linguistic development when I say 'Otter dinking they oiter'. Witnessing a simultaneous linguistic progression and regression and thus Ouroboros-ing the word back into itself.
