I'm glad that the Funato Clan vs Hidden Mist arc ends with Chojuro acknowledging the faults of the Land of the Sea! The root cause of the conflict isn't the clan itself, even if they'd been terrorizing the land. It's more of why people support them in the first place. He recognized this and immediately remedied the situation by putting a stop on the Shinonome 1 project, despite this meant defying the feudal lords of the land.

It's not all good though. I'm not keen of his decision to keep Ikada under surveillance. That boy needs protection, not surveillance, because there will be folks who'll go after him for turning his back against the clan. And Araumi isn't dead yet! Someone else is bound to free him again in the future and the first person he'll go after will be Ikada, just like the way he went after Isari.

Mei's Marriage

I cannot thank the three of them enough.

"Enough!" Mei slams her hands down on the table and takes a deep breath, struggling to contain her chakra so that she exhales air and not acid. It takes a few moments but she finally regains her calm. "You know that we can't go on like this. We need the trade."

The room erupts in a babble of protest, but Mei doesn't bother to sort out which arguments are being advanced by whom. It's all a repetition of the same words which have been spoken again and again, amounting to little more than 'but this is the way we've always done it.' She already knows who her adversaries are anyway, and it's the ones who don't speak who are of most interest to her.

About Ikada

So, can Boruto solve everything by just talking to him? Or will this go down the classic shounen route of them fighting, Ikada coming to Boruto’s side during or after the fight and then dying to protect him pretty much right after? Or will they go all NaruSasu on us with Boruto convincing Ikada during their fight and then happy end, with or without missing limps? 

With how dark this arc has been so far, I vote for Ikada dying to protect Boruto. It would fit the cruel pattern. And to make it worse, maybe Kobuna would be the one to kill him? He’d aim for Boruto, who he blames for his father’s death (even though it was Buntan who gave the finishing blow), but then Ikada would get between them.

But what I would want to happen is dark, but also realistic. What I’d want is for Ikada to stay firm with his current believes, to the point where Boruto would have no choice but to fight him until he’s down. First I thought it’d be good if Boruto had to kill Ikada himself and thus be shown that not all things can be solved by talking, that sometimes things go horribly wrong, but then I came up with the idea of Boruto winning the fight against Ikada and throwing him in jail, for he refuses to change his believes. And then the focus would be back to Konoha, with Boruto occasionally remembering the friend who was still alive but he couldn’t save. Then, after years, we could have another arc where Boruto goes to the land of Water again and reunites with Ikada who... has been reformed? Is still firmly holding on to his believes? Is a wreck? I haven’t decided on this part yet, but still, leaving the Ikada -situation open like that and returning to it later would be a good move.
