Even when he's not explicitly bullying legionnaires, Octavian still finds a way to be just terrifying enough that you're full of respect for him while also being charming enough while doing it that you'd never suspect something is up. He's got a habit, admittedly, of telling long, derailed, and rather complicated stories to new legionnaires who seem way too eager to do this or that. Except, instead of the Lares, he makes it sound a little more entertaining, less like a boring lesson about 'back in my day'. You'll wander a little too much around the mess Hall and overhear some bs like
"You know.. I don't really tell this one to anybody, but seeing as you lot think you're all so above everyone else, I might as well. There was this kid I knew.. About a decade ago.. He's dead now. For certain. I mean, nobody knows but -they know- he's longgg gone. Anyways, his father, alcoholic. First of all. Never put down the bottle. Wasn't usually the kind of man to be rash in the face of discouragement, he was rather relaxed when drinking. That's why this incident was so strange."
And then it'd either turn out to be that the kid just took a few sips of a beer or genuinely got ripped inside out. No in betweens with this guy.
