March 3rd- Fun Facts About Names Day

First thing's first- I had to remember that my actual name is Rebecca, not Bex. Although it's what everyone calls me (friends, family, enemies, the Pizza Hut newsletter I subscribe to), Bex isn't my full first name. Having forgotten this for much longer than I care to admit, I wondered why my name research was turning out to be less than fruitful. 

When I remembered my name (I never thought I'd type that sentence), I found out a lot of things about 'Rebecca'. I already knew it was a name from the Bible, but I'd no idea it means 'a snare' in Hebrew. I'm not sure whether this implies I'm some kind of tool for poaching bears, but I'll skip over that.

One website told me I aim to 'inspire others into a higher cause' which rather makes me sound like I go around trying to convince my friends to become vicars and nuns. Another told me I was kind and modest (I already knew that- I'm THE BEST at being modest). But the greatest website by far to help me find out about my name was Urban Dictionary. If you've never heard of it, it's pretty much written by anyone and everyone who wants to define a word, so 'Rebecca' returned things like-

'Rebecca'-  Perfect. "After hours of meticulous labor, the work was Rebecca".

...and this, which I suspect was written by a gent who was trying to impress a Rebecca. It's just a shame his name on the website was 'Slagathor'...

'Rebecca'- an amazing individual. Her personality contains all of the cliches: creative, passionate, beautiful, smart, and great sense of humor. She deeply cares about others, and she always puts a smile on her friend's and family's faces. The one word that best describes her is "awesome" because, come on, every mother wants their child to be awesome, right?

Rebecca is the girl who makes my day worth living.

Admittedly, I didn't learn a lot about myself from researching my name, but I have learnt one thing- if you ever want a quick ego-boost, go and type your name into Urban Dictionary. Hopefully (for sometimes the stuff on there can be a bit, erm, dodgy) you'll get a lovely surprise.
