Impossibility Defense
How silly... humans are.
So, was he the devil himself? Or just a regular man with an almost supernatural hypnotic ability which he used to kill people - or more precisely, to force people to kill themselves? Would I want a definite answer to that? Sure. But at the same time, the fact that it was left unanswered was so cool!
I was also fascinated by his wish to die. Like he told the female cop, she was the only one who could actually, well, do anything to him at all because his powers didn't work on her. No one else could touch him without him allowing it. And he simply wanted her to finally kill him because that was the only way she could stop him. Did he want to be stopped? It definitely felt like he was looking for something in humans, he put them to test again and again and they always failed. Interesting.
Matsuzaka Tori looked downright devious here. This look with his voice - his voice is just... wow. I love it. One of the few voices that I immediately recognize when hearing it, it's so distinct.
Also, the music! The chorus! Holy smokes. Gave me the shivers! It's used at the beginning of this trailer, listen:
Too bad the mini-series prequel isn't subbed. Wah!
Impossibility Defense (Koji Shiraishi, 2017)
Funouhan / Impossibility Defense (2018)
Genre: Mystery, Psychological, Suspense
Cast: Tori Matsuzaka, Erika Sawajiri, Shotaro Mamiya, Mackenyu Arata, etc
My Rating: 9 / 10
"Even if there is criminal intent, if it isn't taken into action then it can't be judged as a crime. This is called the Impossibility Defense"
Matsuzaka Tori convincingly portrays a chilling killer with a haunting smile. A complicated character whose existence is close to a myth. The kind of darkness that engulfs you.
Based on a manga of the same title. Funohan is a satisfying psychological mystery that keeps you intrigued how the story unravels.
