Throwing back to that amazing day, September 18, 2018 when Los Angeles, one of the world's major fashion centers and long a symbol of glitz and glamour, took some big steps to ban the sale of new fur products, a move that would make it the largest city in the U.S. to do so. A proposal to ban the sale of fur products advanced in the City Council that Tuesday. The council voted unanimously to direct the city attorney to draft an ordinance that will prohibit the manufacture and sale of new fur products. The ordinance must be presented to the council at a future date for final approval and a ban would take effect two years after final approval of the ordinance. This day was especially poignant for the hero pictured next to me named Matt Rossell. Matt spent over four months in a fur farm in Southern Illinois watching and documenting the horror in an effort to shut down that operation. And he did. This was an epic day for animal rights and today, on World Animal Day 2018, another reason to be hopeful we can manifest a healthier and mote peaceful world every day by choosing to leave animals off our plates and off our bodies. LA Councilman Bob Blumenfield said there's no reason to wear fur in 2018. “Certainly not in sunny Los Angeles.” Agreed. Major fashion companies including Michael Kors, Armani and Gucci, have also moved away from using fur. This month, Burberry said it would stop selling real fur. The wheels of progress often move slow but the key is that they are moving.
