HEADCANONS ARE GREAT OK
Alrighty for the sake of canon i won’t incorporate any romance/sex at all (because i ship kidlaw hellyeah but let’s try to stay canon here)
Ok so for the facts we know from oda’s drawing of the supernovas as children that law was from the north and from a rather wealthy family and he as a kid already had a disturbed obsession with cutting things up
As for doflamingo we recently found out in the most recent chapters that his family is that of the tenryuubito though as a child he is depicted as living in poverty.
He does make references to this in chapter 723 that he indeed did have a difficult past before he met law. We also know for a fact that he is of course a powerful shichibukai with body control abilities and practices in slavery.
We know that trafalgar was working for doflamingo, from when we don’t really know. But my assumption is that as a child, Law was taken from his family in the north when doflamingo was on one of his trips. in Worth It is written that Law was in fact taken by one of doflamingo’s slave ships in a hijacking event. It wouldn’t be surprising to assume that law, being the intuitive child prodigy that we assume he was as a child, caught doflamingo’s eye (unfortunately for him). I feel like doflamingo makes a habit out of taking people/children who catch his interest. This can be seen by the amount of followers that he has on dressrosa. True, they may be drawn simply because of his shichibukai status, but his followers are so staunchly loyal to their young master that one may assume there is a deeper bond there. We can see from even the most recent chapters that despite doflamingo being the antagonist, he cares about his subordinates lives Seeing their devotion to doflamingo, we can assume that doflamingo has a quality that causes the people around him to devote themselves completely. Law included. I believe that in the early years, like in rapunzel, with doflamingo supporting his endeavors, young law devoted himself to studying medicine in order to assist his now foster father. Kids are easily impressionable and having been taken away from his parents at such a young age (around 7-8 or so?) although law and the other children (perhaps monet and baby 5) have some sort of understanding of what had happened; in the care and comfort of the lavish home of the shichibukai, they have gradually convinced themselves that doflamingo is indeed their guradian. However as the kids grow older they either go one way or the other. Monet and baby 5 become even more devoted to doflamingo and achieving his goals becomes their dreams. However others like trafalgar and violet have come to the understanding of their position and doflamingo’s nature. However only law has dared to rebel, everyone else is too afraid of the shichibukai’s power
Im going to guess that this disillusionment came sometime before the incident “13 years ago” that law refers to in chapter 724. We know for a fact that there was physical abuse (by vergo and perhaps doflamingo) when law was working under doflamingo This may be perhaps the incident from 13 years ago that law may be referring to but of course it must be more than such an ass whooping. Plus, physical abuse may or may not have happened on a normal basis before or after the incident (though personally i feel like law started to rebel a bit early on and got beaten plenty of times by both vergo and doflamingo). Currently i don’t have a solid idea of what that “incident ” was about. my ideas run from doflamingo murdering law’s mother after law tries to reunite with his family, to the sudden deprivation of law’s entire freedom [this includes a lot of branding headcanons i have of doflamingo imbedding his jolly roger into law’s body], to doflamingo murdering law’s friends in front of him to display his control over law’s life, etc etc etc. Im guessing that whatever the incident was has a close link to doflamingo damaging law’s sense of pride, freedom, and bonds with the people he loves. (this is assuming that he made friends or tried to reuinite with his family within this time).
What we do know from law’s character is that he is one who doesn’t easily display emotion. He is intuitive, calculating, and cold. And doesn’t like being told what to do (while this does seem like a childlike mentality it actually draws towards his past of having always been under doflamingo’s control and i’ll add to that later). He doesn’t seem like a character who has any deep attachments to anyone. This can be a development from his past living under doflamingo; his making bonds, developing relationships is a weakness— something that doflamingo can use against him. It is safer to be cold and unfeeling in order to protect those that he cares about. He doesn’t have the luxury of displaying affection because there is always that inherent fear in him that those he shows emotions for will be taken away (which is what I’m going to assume may have happened 13 years ago, who knows i may be very wrong HAhahaa)
Now we know that even after the incident 13 years ago, law continued to work for doflamingo until his rebellion in the most recent arc. My guess is that after the incident, law resolved to escape from doflamingo and get revenge/foil his plans. So he slowly regained doflamingo’s trust to the point that he ensured law that he was to have the “heart seat”
Now let’s talk about doflamingo really quick. I’ve mentioned before that he does in fact care about the lives of his subordinates. If you are useful to doflamingo then he cares about whether you live or die i suppose. However he cares for them only to the extent of how much they are worth to him as a chess piece. In my mind, law came to the realization that he was simply doflamingo’s tool and that he (like the toys of dressrosa) was simply a moving puppet with no actual freedom. Now remember what i said before of how young law had seen doflamingo as a father figure, one that he loved. This attachment is difficult to relinquish. I’d like to think that earlier in his rebellion, law struggled with his own internal conflicts, trying to convince himself that doflamingo did actually care despite his abusive actions (If we were to take these points to the extreme, law and perhaps some of the people working under doflamingo can be seen to have the symptoms of battered woman syndrome) —this is a bit extreme of course but you can let your own imagination decide how badly you believe law or any others may have been affected by doflamingo’s dominance. Of course most of his followers have come to love him but we are talking about law here so let’s not get into that.
SO let’s jump to pre time skip. Law has his own crew, his own ship and nakama. He has his pseudo freedom from doflamingo (because of course he still must answer to him). However law is far enough away that he feels safe enough to develop bonds with his nakama who obviously adore him. However even with his nakama he still tends to not show much emotion. At this point it has become part of his personality, to be closed and private with a permanent poker face. [off topic but i hope that when he and his crew are reunited the heart pirates, seeing the strawhats acting so familiar with their captain will finally get the guts to do what they have always wanted to do and get past their captain’s cold exterior and give him a huge ass group bear hug. Attack him. attack that fluffy haired little ass he needs the love he just won’t allow himself to have it] But yes, he still has that cold unloving demeanor because of the events in the past that have been ingrained into him to not show affection. That’s the only way to protect the ones he cares for. I like to think that law does in fact crave that affection. He does. But he’s too afraid to show it and i’m so happy that luffy and the others stripped off his poker face. Its ok to show emotion law Q____Q
ok here comes some of my random headcanons that may be a bit of a stretch but bear with me here (i’m copying and pasting some of this stuff from my many rants about my feelings for law)—
don’t you find it interesting that law is one of the only people in the series that uses a submarine? especially as a fruit user, submerging yourself in the one thing that can weaken you. Now we have doflamingo. If we look at the animal symbolism, flamingos are huge and lanky flashy creatures with the ability to fly. And now we know that doflamingo’s family is that of the tenryuubito. So he has rule over the air and the land. The one place that law can try to escape to is deep deep into the ocean. Of course its not completely safe but it is a sort of solace perhaps. I imagine that Law is the type who dislikes being in crowded ares, human contact in general. So being deep in the ocean, with no one around but his crew, he can relax and feel safe. Take in the silence of the deep ocean, untainted by the presence of humans. It is something he treasures, even when surrounded by the water that can kill him so easily
perhaps the reason Law is so childish about putting his symbol on EVERYTHING, every piece of clothing even tattooing it to his body, is due to his need to assert his own self. He’s been working under Doflamingo for almost his entire life; every part of his being and future ruled by someone else’s whims. So when he makes his own crew, for the first time he begins to identify himself as a being separate from Doflamingo. He’s desperate to become his own self. to become free. ok that’s all i can think of for now SORRY IT WAS SO LONG AND NOT WELL VERSED i was just pulling things out of my ass @____@ i love law so much i can’t even….. and this is subtracting all the romantical headcanons i have for him and kid and doflamingo ahhhhhhh please don’t get me started oh god I’m such a bad employee i need to get back to work
I have four days to finish the coat, ascot, hook, rings, cigar, and shoes for crocodile please, fuck me and my art
