Throwback Thursday to April of 2016, when I got to paint the legendary Further bus!! As I was touring through Eugene, Oregon, my friend (and blotter print producer) @zanekesey invited me to add my magic on the bus of his legendary father @ken_kesey . Ken was a famous novelist that originated the “Merry Pranksters” crew in the time between the “Beat generation” and the hippies. They used to throw these “Acid Test” parties where they would distribute LSD to the masses for the first time, as to introduce this liberation medicine. Ken mentored the @gratefuldead , who where the house band of these trippy jams. The Pranksters then got this old bus, painted it psychedelic and crossed America, to keep spreading acid to the everyday man. Eventually they abandoned the bus and let it rot in an Oregon swamp. Then in the 90s, Ken found an identical bus, painted it up and since then it has been toured around the States for decades, spreading good vibes. This was the bus that I painted, but I was stoked that the original bus (which had been rescued from the swamp) was there too. “There” was the Kesey Farm, where Ken’s house was left intact and tomb was sitting in the back. The Grateful Dead used to perform in the old barn I was painting in too. So LSD is not my personal medicine of preference, but since I was in such an historic place for it, I took some “Purple Microdot”. It was my 3rd and last time I did it, which made painting more fun, animated and trippy, but also left me feeling kinda uncomfortable in my own body at the end of the day. Anyways, it was a blessed and humbling experience to paint on Ken’s masterpiece and meet so many nice pranksters, including Jerry Garcia’s wife @carogarcia . So much Gratitude!! #throwbackthursday #tbt #furtherbus #furtherbustour #themerrypranksters #pranksters #lsd #acidtest #acidtests #gratefuldead #carolinegarcia #grateful https://www.instagram.com/p/B60x8kFHGEC/?igshid=xn7mwvzdtug
