Help! I used iron-on interfacing to attach the R logo to my Team Rocket uniform shirt...but the first time I washed it, the interfacing lost its hold, & now the letter is coming up. What do I do, & can this be fixed easily? If you need pictures for further diagnosis, message me.
Sorry, this got lost in my combined inbox and I missed it!
You have a few options:
1) Sew it down. This is the most secure method, and isn’t too difficult if part of your adhesive is still holding the letter in place. I’d suggest basting the edges first to make sure you don’t have any puckers, then going over the entire edge of the applique with a satin stitch or tight zigzag stitch to keep it from fraying.
2) Heat N Bond UltraHold. The best way to use this would be to remove the letter completely and reattach it with UltraHold, which is the strongest fusible web that’s readily available at chain stores. In my experience it holds well through washing (cold water/delicate cycle or hand wash). It’s stronger than Stitch Witchery, Wonder Under, or Heat N Bond Lite. However, it will not seal the edges of all fabrics, so you may see some fraying with repeated washes. You may want to use FrayCheck or another product on the edge of your applique.
3) Fabric glue. This would NOT be my first recommendation, but it works in a pinch. FabriTac is the most secure glue in my experience, but like all glues, it runs the risk of soaking through or discoloring your fabric. It’s also less flexible than the first two options.
