ahhh i see. There is a place nearby-ish that does tailored suits, but I haven't checked it out. That and my budget is very very low at the moment--spending $20 on a shirt is even a lot atm. I spent around $60 on a nice womens jacket when I needed to put together a suit quick-like for a job interview, but that was about as much as I could spare. I got the job, and so my income will be much better once I'm graduated, but I want enough nice things to look good at work! I appreciate your advice!
No problem! I love talking about clothes. It’s easy for me, but for queer people/women (my partner) it’s a lot harder to find good fits. The more queer friendly places are extremely limited, and tailored suits are quite expensive, (depending on where you work it might not be expected anyway, probably having odd blazers/jackets would be fine and more versatile), so I’d highly suggest reading up on alteration tailors and thrifting, knowing what can be done there would open you up to making some pretty nice cheap finds. It does take experience/research in knowing what you want and whether something will work, but a lot cheaper. Some forums are pretty good with that kind of advice (styleforum, ask andy about clothes, even something awful has a thread on it) but you’d have to structure their advice to a less hetereonormatively male perspective. Those forums I mentioned generally give good advice in finding out which brands/lines are good and how much you should expect to pay for certain articles.
If you’re just starting work, having versatile pieces is probably priority, I am just saying this because when I first tried dressing better I made the mistake of picking up fancy pieces that looked cool, but because I didn’t have a well thought out wardrobe to base it around I couldn’t actually make use of them without looking ridiculous.
