Future Tense Adrien: What if it wasn't quite so easy to entirely rid others of their memories? The human brain has been compared to a computer & even if you delete something from 1, it isn't really gone. That information, that data, is still there, (play Psychonauts & some Persona) it's out there & still burned to the hard drive of your mind; your subconcious. They can be suppressed, but not removed or destroyed. The only ways to get rid of them would mean reducing a person to a vegetable. Next.
Continuation of Future Adrien: The more Adrien oblivios people, the more those people would unconsciously fear him, instinctively becoming nervous & drawning away from both him & Mari. So, what if Mari realizes that people are acting weird. As time passes even SHE starts feeling nervous around her boyfriend. She never mentions anything to Adrien or ANYONE, but it’s always there in the back of her mind. Their relationship becomes a game of pai sho. Adrien forgot just how much Mari hates liars…
It would depend on who he oblivios and how the process works. If he can’t just erase the memories completely, I could see him “storing” them somewhere safe so they still technically exist but are inaccessible to the people they belong to.
The thing is, that’s a last resort in the first place. He uses all other means to keep people unsuspecting of him. Because really, who would ever think Adrien Agreste, the Sunshine Child, would have such a darker side? There would be a few who never fully lose suspicions of him, but they could be dealt with easily enough. Either paid off or gaslighted into thinking they imagined it. And failing that, the Miraculous worked just as well.
Depending on who it is, some people suddenly obtain a large monetary sum and a strange urge to move away from Paris. It’s the one time and they never come up again.
Others, like Alya or Chloe, would a bit more difficult. Of course he’s not just just going to get rid of them—they’re his friends. Even Chloe. Which was why he had Chloe leave with her mom after dropping a few “suggestions” in Audrey’s head about spending more time with her daughter and showing her the business in New York.
Alya, he would try to make too busy to bother with him. A journalist’s job is one that spans stories and regions. Alya wouldn’t have the time to keep bothering him.
And Marinette…he doesn’t want her to fear him. Never her. And he would of course try to avoid using his power on her if he can help it.
But sometimes she gets too curious. Tikki feels a strange pull and Marinette as Ladybug feels the need to follow. Sometimes there’s a memory of something happening with Adrien. Sometimes there’s a niggling that she needs to check Gabriel’s old office in the Agreste mansion or that she needs to find an old observatory on the property.
Sometimes, Ladybug keeps finding herself approaching this place she doesn’t remember ever going but still feels is so familiar. And in dreams or nightmares, she enters only for everything to go black.
And a voice apologizing to her.
Sometimes Ladybug fights.
But every time, she’s Ladybug.
“This is happening a bit too often, My Lady. I’m sorry, but I think it’s time for you to put away childish things.”
And when she wakes up, she’s home.
Her ears are bare and cold.
She feels like she wants to call out to someone. Like there’s supposed to be someone else with her.
Part of her feels worried. Like there’s someone she needs to check on.
There’s no one there. It’s only herself.
And when she turns and goes back to sleep, she doesn’t think about a small missing companion with big blue eyes.
