I was just scrambling through my notes trying to find if I have written up any scenes like this before, and I seem not to have done so in any organized way. Probably because some of this will appear in a coming longer arc, Priority: New York.

But -- unless I get a better idea -- here is roughly how things go down.

Garrus’ first meeting with the gang is during the final phases of the war, so he is trying very hard to be polite and professional. The entire Normandy crew, in fact, meets the turtles and the whole New York group about this time. Shepard has to lay some groundwork first, obviously, but hey: this is Shepard’s crew. They have learned to roll with weirdness.

However, dealing with Shepard’s old friends’ odd appearance is one thing. Dealing with their battle tactics is another. See, the Normandy crew usually tries to avoid getting into close quarters with the likes of brutes and banshees. Or anything, really. Their first impulse is to shoot or use biotics, not to run at the enemy and skewer it with a piece of steel or whack it with a stick.

Yeah. So. There is a lot of mutual bafflement as everyone figures out how to work together.

But meanwhile, Garrus, still trying to be super-polite, finds himself getting a certain amount of suspicious looks and veiled warnings, particularly from Leo and Raph, who take it upon themselves to be big-brotherly.

Shepard eventually blows her stack about this, I think, because come ON guys, she is a GROWN WOMAN and does not need protecting, and also she has a sniper rifle and knows where they live, so STOP IT. Then things subside to friendly ribbing. Garrus gets along well with a lot of people, after all, and he gets along particularly well with Donnie, as they can find a lot to geek out about together. So everything seems cool.

Then Splinter, because he is a massive troll, asks Garrus what his intentions toward Shepard are. Shepard sputters and turns funny colors, and once Garrus understands what this question means, he decides to actually propose.
