Thoughts for Me, Me

You should know, I think you're doing a great job. You have done a lot for yourself and others in the recent and storied past. If you were to sit down with anyone, anywhere, and tell them what you've done, they would have light accolades and snacks called for you immediately. For that, you may have one just-a-bit-too-lingering pat on the back from me, you.

Ever the opposite of a salmon, you have fought hard to avoid the mainstream. Your complete lack of awareness of recent news headlines is an achievement for the front page. Ah, I can see now that you want to make fun of yourself, deflect, move on, become unencumbersome.

Maybe 15 years from now, but not today, Sr.

May 14th, 2030

Fifteen years from now I'll be sitting in an open-window cafe. I'll be sipping from a custom morning newspaper. The newspaper will be utilizing censoring technology I've developed to completely block any company, talking head, or network I don't trust to feed me reality bites.

I'll look out on the river. Let steam from my morning tea susurrate against my cheeks. Rest my hand against the side of a hand-crafted wood table, and tap with my middle finger to get my dog's attention.

I'll be sitting in the commons area of a treehouse community that one of my brilliant friends will design. I, and whoever is sharing a day of their life with me at that moment, will be so far off the grid that you'll need an equation to find us. Despite the tranquility, we'll be only a brief boat, bike, or skyhop ride from the nearest village of smiling faces.

It will be a Tuesday. I will get a reminder to pack my bag for the weekend. My friends and I will have an improv show the upcoming weekend in LA. 30 minutes later, we'll have a show in Seattle.

I'll know my worth down to the millionth person I've impacted. I'll be working on my third book; my first with no pictures. Stay tuned,
