Cars - Thoughts about Urbanism
Here in my car
I feel safest of all
I can lock all my doors
It's the only way to live
In cars
Have you been to Disneyland? You know where you start. Main Town America. It was supposed to nostalgize you to the good old American town. But think about the main street, with its shops and blaring old-timey songs. It’s a walkable town. In fact, the whole place is walkable. Why do we miss this, but then we go out and live in a place where there are lonely silent homes everywhere?
Here in my car
I can only consume
I don’t listen to you
It keeps me stable for days
In cars
For all the talk about how friendly and brash Americans are, we live in a highly introverted space. We like having parties and civic engagement, but we spent most of time either at work or at home alone with your family. At some point, you just get cabin fever. Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink.
Here in my car
Where all my dreams breaks down
Will you visit me please
If I open my door
In cars
I think one of the things that troubles America is the fact that we made our lives so transactional. Even when we imagine people living in Disney World, we see a world where everything becomes transactional to the point that your social standing is traded and sold. I guess we built the country on that premise.
Here in my car
I know I've started to think
About leaving tonight
I think nothing seems right
In cars
Maybe we could start to embrace just being with people and having connections. I know I always pursue the place, even through my social anxiety and badness. But for now, we will continue to live all day in cars, thinking about cars, going from point A to B. Because who cares about process when I need to consume?
