A part of me definitely wants to experience pregnancy and carry mine and my future wife’s child in me for nine months and then bring that child into this world, but another part of me is terrified of childbirth. If there is one thing that I was never taught in a conservative Catholic home, it was that childbirth is traumatic. The result is beautiful, yes, but it is also physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting and traumatic. I admire the strength of all of the women before me (including my own mother) who have given birth and that makes me feel a little less anxious about it, but there are thousands of articles and posts from women describing that while pregnancy and childbirth are indeed beautiful and amazing, it is also very scary and women should not be expected to simply bear it. Going through pregnancy and childbirth is a big decision and not to be taken lightly--no matter of you’re a straight woman, bi, or lesbian. As a lesbian, I at least don’t have to worry about a surprise pregnancy.
