In wanting to be a parent in a few years, it is really hard to relate to people who genuinely see test scores as a reflection of the quality of their schools. Like does your child come back home at the end of the day knowing how the systems around them work? How to critically think? The benefits of treating other living beings well? I really don't need my future kids to score well in algebra within a high intensity period of allotted time as much as those other things--unless, of course, they happen to really love math.

Svalbard

a few years ago i started taking interest in svalbard. it sounds so good. fantastic. just for the people like me.

(this is more of a personal post. some information is there, but it’s not intended to share information)

why svalbard is so good?

its arctic climate. it’s so freakin cold and i love it. about 60% of the archipelago is covered with glaciers. ❄️

no visa required. everyone may live and work in there indefinitely regardless of their citizenship. ✅

sparsely populated. 2,530 people in 2023. i’m sick of big cities infested with humans

polar nights. i hate daylight. when it’s midnight sun season, blackout curtains would do me well.

why does it fit my life plan perfectly?

i hate heat. i hate summer. i can barely breathe. svalbard cold would suit me nicely. 🌨️

i can escape this hellhole of a country and the garbage people called my family. they will never reach me there. ⛓️‍💥

i can learn russian. survival level of it. i won’t have to be that good, because i’m not gonna be there for long anyway. and i already know some. спасибо. привет. 📖

everything in svalbard is said to be very expensive. when i carry with me everything i’m worth, i can just live normally there and will go flat broke very fast. 💸

after then i can walk into the freezing ocean. rock in my pocket a la virginia woolfe style. i heard that dea*h comes quick because it’s so freezing cold, the body goes to shock and di* quick.

or i can throw myself in the jaws of polar bears. they are better than men, everyone know this. 🐻‍❄️

i’m only 35% kidding. my other option is probably a leather belt in 21 sq meter concrete coffin i call my room. 😂

look how beautiful svalbard is.

and look at seoul. hideous prison of a city.

there is no contest. what is this if it’s not an inspiration to self-exit? wellll, if anyone read this this far, please tell me, is there any other place like svalbard? is there any option for me? i’m really asking, no joke. 🥰

what is YOUR American dream?

like obviously there the generic American dream, which is owning a home in suburbia, having a partner and 3.5 kids. But that's just what has been told us. What is your American dream like outside of the programing?

What is your American dream? You know too much about the American landscape and the different types of communities and living styles available to everyone.

Do you wanna live near a retirement community in Florida? Just going on walks and having a solid group of people that you see every day?

Do you want to live on an isolated ranch in North Dakota? Only going into town once a week to get necessities?

Do you want to live in New York City? Being a social butterfly and floating between friend groups and communities at your leisure?

Do you want to live an organic hippie lifestyle on a commune in Arizona?

and something I like to do when planning or envisioning these types of lifestyles Is acknowledging that this will probably only go on for about 5-10 years.

10 years is the maximum amount of time I will probably spend engaging with that lifestyle and that way of being before i want something new. The limitation of the time Span kills the limerence, and makes me approach my desires in a more "realistic" way.
