Future Sick is the 9th track on Neon Indian's second studio album Era Extraña, which was released on September 7, 2011 by Static Tongues and Mom + Pop Music. The track was arranged and produced by Neon Indian's frontman Alan Palomo, with some additional production and mixing by Dave Fridmann. The song was performed by Neon Indian. 

Arrangement Notes: 

Neon Indian chose to have a more haunting, breathy vocal that is reminiscent of a ghost, you can almost feel the person fading away while they're singing. In the background they play the same little melody that is introduced in the beginning continuously throughout the song until the bridge, where a variation of the melody is played instead, and then the original melody returns until almost the very end of the song, at which point they switch back to the melody played at the bridge until the very end of the song. 

Lyrical Notes: 

I think they are commenting on how humans are always striving for and looking to the future to solve all our problems, how we tend to get carried away daydreaming about it that it distracts us from focusing on the now. We spend so much time thinking that our problems will solve themselves or be fixed somehow in the future that it prevents us from taking initiative and fixing our present problems right now.

Opinion of the Song and Message: 

I think this song is far beyond magnificent. I find it very relaxing, I absolutely love his voice and the sweet, calm, haunting sound it has. I love the message, it's very relatable, at least for myself, because I've found myself multiple times stuck mulling over how everything must end up perfectly in the future because that's just the way it's supposed to be, forgetting that without doing anything about my problems they'll just be there until I actually do something about them. 

Key Production Moves: 

1.) Really nice choice of synth tones

2.) Catchy repeated background melody

3.) Nice bass-line that complements the melody rather than overpowering or dominating

Key Songwriting Success:

1.) Haunting, calm vocals

2.) Message that makes me think, that addresses an interesting topic and is relevant to everyday-life and relatable but isn't about love/heartbreak/the usual topics addressed in songs
