I decided I wanted to do a collage. Normally I would just grab a bunch of stuff that I liked or thought looked cool, but this time, keeping illustration in mind, I wanted to have the collage tell a story.
I first started looking for a large block of text that I could cut words or sentence fragments from. Luckily, I found a piece that contained some very vivid language, so I decided to rearrange several lines of text out of that work.
After forming a sentence I felt was powerful enough to build a piece around, I began to search out images that I felt expressed or were related to the tone I was hoping to convey in the text. I tried several different options before I settled on the one I felt was the strongest in balance and concept. After some minor editing in Lightroom, the end result was exactly the tone I was looking for.
