After Dinner Talk
Who: Gloria and Alex What: Para Where: Gloria’s Apartment Why: Gloria has some news for Alex When: Future week, December 2020
Gloria had been quiet all throughout dinner, trying hard to figure out just what to say to Alex. Things had been going well for the most part, as well as could be expected. It wasn't exactly what she had wanted in a relationship but he made her happy and they didn't have to deal with the drama everyone else seemed to go through. That was all about to change though and she wasn't even sure where she should start. She blinked up at him from her spot where she was curled into his side and raised up to turn to fully face him. "I need you to listen to me completely and not interrupt with what I'm about to tell you. It's already gonna be hard enough and I really don't know if I'll be able to finish if you do." She swallowed hard, wringing her hands together.
Alex watched Gloria carefully all through dinner. This quiet nervous woman wasn't the Gloria he knew, she always had a voice, they had their playful banter and comfortable silences but this wasn't a comfortable silence, this was a high strung silence filled with anxiety and it had Alex worried. Dispite their FWB relationship Gloria was still his best friend and he needed her to be okay. Alex held her close when they got back to his apartment and waited for her to talk. He just hoped she wasn't ending whatever this was that they had. "I'm right here listening" He promised, covering her nervous hands with his own, watching her carefully.
Gloria swallowed hard, looking up at him. "So I went to the doctor a week ago. You know how I've been feeling under the weather lately?" She asked, running a hand through her hair and trying hard to keep looking him in the eye. "Turns out there's a reason for it and it wasn't actually the stomach flu." She could feel her hands shaking and she took a breath to steady herself before glancing up again. "You don't have to stick around or anything. I know this wasn't supposed to be serious so I'd understand. But I, um...turns out in about 7 months or so, I'm going to be introducing someone new to the world...Kind of a miracle in a way since I was on birth control..."
Alex couldn't take his eyes off Gloria, but he kept quiet as she had asked. Once she was finished Alex remained silent. He didn't know what to say, he didn't know how to feel. On one hand the idea of a baby his baby, his baby with a women who ment the world to him was like a miricle. But on the other hand this was the last thing he expected and the last thing on his mind, he was just starting to climb the ladder at the FBI all of his time and energy were going into his new job and commitment was not what he wanted right now. "Fuck" he whispered. "What do you want to do with the- the-"
Gloria tried hard to offer up a strong smile. "With the baby? I told you, you don't have to stick around for it or anything. I know you have a lot going on right now. But I'm not giving up this child. That's not an option for me." Even if they ended up never speaking again, which would break her heart, she wasn't wasn't going to just give the baby up. It was hers, and his, and she knew that even if she wasn't planning for one, she still wanted him or her. "See? Told you that cuddling would be a thing of the past."
Alex blinked rappidly, his head spinning. "Cuddling is not a thing of the past," he replied pulling her close. "I just- I don't know what to say" Alex wasn't often speechless but right now he didn't know how to feel. "We might not be together but if you need money, or you want me there I can be, I don't think I'm exactly parent material but this isn't all on you."
Gloria slumped against him, shrugging her shoulders. "I just don't want you to feel like you have to do this, Alex. I know you weren't exactly expecting it or wanting anything serious." She shook her head, frowning up at him. "It's not about being parent material. I just want you to be happy. I can handle a baby, I have a few months to plan anyway and it's not like I don't have family to help. I just thought you deserved to know really."
Alex held her tightly as if he might fall off the face of the planet if he didn't. "Honestly I'm fucking terrified" he replied, not looking her in the eyes. "You're right I didn't expect this, or want this right now, not with my new job, hell I wasn't even looking for a relationship." He sighed, deciding being honest was best for everyone right now. "I can't promise anything between you and me but this is half my responsibility so if there is anything you need, tell me, and I'm still your friend Gloria."
