Bones sniffs at the dirt, following along a little trail he’s managed to snort up. He’s really craving a good hunt right now... He really just wants to chase something down, go after something....

He perks up when he spots something take off from the underbrush and he’s quick to follow behind. The smell he’s been following wafts off this creature and he’s excited to finally find it!

Excited? Crazed seems more applicable- his eyelights narrow to pinpoints and fixate on the creature that bounds off in front of him. It’s a fast runner, but Bones is determined to catch up... It just smelled too good. Almost... familiar. Familiar in a way that made Bones’ heart pound and his feet move faster. He didn’t know what it was exactly, but he had to win this prize.

The longer this thing dodges him, the more agitated he gets. It zigzags around in the dirt, throwing Bones off his balance now and then but he manages to keep up well enough. He follows along this way for a while before he decides to zag when the other creature zigs and that was enough to close that distance.

Bones pounces, sinking his fingers into the creature’s soft fur and pinning it to the ground as it gives a surprised squeal and tries to wriggle away.

“W-wait!” Did it say something? Bones only really notices when his jaws are closing around it, tearing into fluff and... not quite flesh. He only pauses then, looking down at the wide familiar eyes that stare up at him for a fraction of a second before dissolving into dust.

He had been so focused, so insanely tuned into the hunt that he didn’t notice... Didn’t recognize the scent, didn’t recognize that shape... Both of which would have linked in his mind to running and chasing anyway, even if it wasn’t quite so sinister. 

Bones is pawing weakly at the dust below him, scooping some of it together in a weak attempt to keep it together before a little breeze scatters it all, leaving him clawing at the dirt quietly with tears starting to pour down his snout.
