Hoid almost certainly performs magic for people. But he does two different shows.

One he advertises as 100% real magic, no tricks involved! In this show, he uses sleight of hand and misdirection to convince people he's doing real magic.

The other he advertises as top-of-the-line sleight of hand. Here, he proceeds to use literal magic.

If anyone calls him out on it, he simply launches into a long-winded explanation of how that was the true magic trick and disappears mysteriously.
