What made you want to become a stage manager? What are your biggest "actor don't"s?
I’ve pretty much wanted to be a stage manager before I even knew what they were. And once I did find out what they were (when I was about 14/15), it’s all i’ve ever wanted to be. I just like the idea that there’s a flesh and blood person (or team of persons) that knows the ins and outs of this magical ephemeral thing we call theatre making. That everything you see onstage has been tracked, listed, itemized, spiked, cleaned, organized etc. That while we may be such stuff as dreams are made on, underneath we’re still rude mechanicals looking for a stage manager.
I’m not sure if I’ve got specific “actor don’ts”. I love it when actors I work with come in ready to play with the text, who come in knowing that we’ve all got different jobs to do and we will do them to the best of our abilities. I love actors who trust me, who take the time to get to know me, who value my opinion and insight, and who know that when I address the cast, it’s because I have something important to say. I love actors who see that we’re all on the same team, who can put their ego aside and be good company members. I love actors who take my notes with eagerness, who want every performance to be just as good as the one before, who never coast or slack off, who never settle too much in a show.
And if they bring me coffee before tech I love them all the more.
Thanks!

Who says you cant waltz with women, too though? Screw gender stereotypes.
Yes, that's a possibility too. My friend was telling me that at her graduation 2 girls waltzed with their mothers (one because she never met her father and the other because her father died). I still haven't said anything to my family yet (I'm waiting until they ask me about it), so let's see how they'll react, and then I'll see what I'll do.
