One I’ve never shared before, from #1992 at #artschool, #SUNYPurchase. Just a simple class exercise to paint fabric, but a guy who had been following me around campus quickly volunteered to be my partner, so I had to paint his blue long sleeved shirt arranged with its arms around the tie dyed t-shirt I brought for the exercise. Cindytalk 🙌 show flyer from 1997/8ish in London. On this night I was introduced to Elizabeth Fraser from Cocteau Twins, but was too shy to say very much other than “hi!”. I have a bunch of lovely Cindytalk memories as Cindy (fka Gordon Sharp) is a dear friend of mine, much thanks to a nice guy named Everette who I met thru friends at World Domination Records. Everette sadly has since passed, RIP. He knew I was into Cindytalk, and that I was going to be living in London soon, so he introduced us; I think via phone and letters, then we met in person when I moved there in 1995, though my memory SUCKS so it’s a great big blur! But I do remember Cindy always tried to take me to different kinds of music events that I normally wouldn’t have gone to, always trying to open my eyes to new things. She even put up with my weird obsession with The Cure 🥴😂 and gave me some rad Steve Gullick Cure photos because they are also good friends. Anyway…. Sigh. Nice Fall day today makes me miss bee-bopping and getting all gnarly with paint and wood dust in my old studio. I had THE furthest space in the now razed old NIU graduate program studio spaces, but it was cool. Day like today I’d have the side door propped open, getting fresh air from the neighboring forest, and mixing paint and going to town. Credit to Lilias Petit-Scott for the photos of me.
