JUXTAPOSITION - SAUL NASH

For his latest campaign video, Saul Nash travelled to Katla in Iceland, where the sand is as black as the well-trodden snow that accumulates in central London. Directed by longtime collaborator Fx Goby and styled by Elgar Johnson, the film expands on Nash’s acclaimed autumn/winter 2023 collection, Juxtaposition, which examined the tensions between the popularity of skiwear on the street and the social barriers that prevent most people from going on extravagant ski trips to Europe. Contrasting urban life against private fantasia, ideas of metamorphosis and transformation are central to the film’s intention. “It’s a metaphor: if you open your mind, it can take you anywhere. The character leans into his intuition and transcends distance, space, and time.” Juxtaposition is the sixth film Goby and Nash have created together. “We started out in the estate opposite my studio and now we’re in Iceland,” Goby says. “I like that Saul’s work is anchored in his lived experiences. Here, it’s about the idea of living by proxy: imitating a lavish lifestyle of ‘going to the ski resort’ without having been to one. “Twist is about movement in an everyday context, telling a story about the men who shape the way I dress. I wanted to look at preconceived assumptions about men of my generation, how we are perceived and who we really are.” says Saul Nash.

Saul Nash presents TWIST, a collection and film for AW21 that looks at the cultural and societal landscape surrounding Nash throughout his life. In the film, Nash explores honesty, bravery and acceptance, uplifting preconceived ideas around sportswear and the tribes of young men most readily associated with it.
