Music & Five Year Plan
When I was 13 years old my sister got a guitar for Christmas. It sat in her room and collected dust for quite some time, with the hope that she would one day learn how to play.
One night we had some family friends over and we call these lovely people the Rice Family. They were over one night and Jeremy Rice had inspired me to mess around with her guitar not having a clue what I was doing. So mess around I did. I picked that thing up, went into my computer room and recorded (I think it was) 5 songs that night. The songs were awful, and when i saw awful I mean I rocked one fret and 6 open strings because I had not the slightest clue as to what I was doing. But that night sparked a love in me for music that I never knew was coming. I asked my parents if I could take guitar lessons with our youth minister, Josh McGrew, and I took lessons with him once a week for about 2 months before I stopped. (We either couldn't afford it or I just didn't want to anymore) so everything I learned on guitar after that was by ear or online (looking at tabs and chord charts and what not).
After years of tapping pencils on desks in school, I knew I had some sort of an ear for rhythm. We had this old red drum set that we used for our youth group in church and before youth group their was noone messing with it, so of course I decided to be that guy. One wednesday night in 2014 I asked if I could mess around on those drums, and I'll never forget the first night I did. What I played that night, was a decent beat from a kid who'd never drummed in his life, all because he tapped his pencils on desks in middle school and could hear beats in his head. So that year I got my first drumset that I paid $200 for, and I loved that set so much, just because they were drums and they were mine.
Through the years I've only fallen harder for music, and I've learned things on piano, I taught myself how to scream (back when I was a little scene kid) and currently I still improve on those instruments, not because I want to be better necessarily, but because I am absolutely in love with this supernatural phenomenon that is music. I've always used it as an outlet for emotion, a way to let out how I feel in a safe way and share with others experiences that I've been through, good and bad.
Currently I have a band called Five Year Plan, and I sing and play a cajon, and my good friend Ethan Pollitt plays guitar. I hope to really make it somewhere with this so I can make a living doing what I absolutely love, and use it as a door into the hearts of others. I want to use it to meet new people and share with them the joy and love I've found in Christ. I want to meet people who have dirt, and teach them that cleaning up is very possible. I want to teach encouragement, and positivity. To not focus on the past, but what decisions you're going to make today and tomorrow.
I love serving and helping others, and that's what I want to do with this wonderful gift my Creator has given me. I want to pour into the lives of others through it, and help them rise abouve whatever it is they're going through. I also want to have fun and show others that life is a beautiful thing and we weren't made to be worrying, fearful creatures. We were made to enjoy life, and enjoy the act of giving. Enjoy the love that is Christ. I want to make music for the rest of my life, because it's a passion that has not and never will leave me.
If you'd like to help us out and be a blessing, just tell your friends who we are. Tell them to tell their friends. We want to pour into society that life has so much more to offer than hurt, regret, pain, etc. We want to meet people, and make family, to go places, and play and sing for those who do and don't need it. We want to love this world and serve the way Christ served us. So if you'd like to help us out, please do so. We appreciate every last bit of it and don't take any of it for granted. I'll post the links to our sites below so you can actually hear what we do, but I really just wanted to share where my passion started, and bring to life the love I have for music and where it came from. Thank you for reading this, God bless.
