Beachheads are a Norwegian (Oslo) power-pop band in the mold of I Was a King. In fact, Frode Strømstad (I Was A King, The No Ones, Rider) produced the record and his fellow "Rider" mate, Vidar Landa, is a member of the band.

Another great touchstone would be the previously mentioned The No Ones (Yep Roc). Strong melodies and harmonies abound throughout this release by FysiskFormat, a label based in Oslo.

In Haugesund, the native hometown of Norwegian noise rockers Årabrot, everybody is a fatalist, or at least a good-natured sceptic. Why? Well, go there yourself and experience the cold, rocky landscape, the pitch-black winter fjords, the perpetual rain, the roaring winds …

Grey mild winters, grey cold summers.

The source of motivation in such sombre conditions is in a philosophical perspective interesting: What's the motive force here? Where do the people find the drive to keep up their endeavors?

For Årabrot the vigour is undoubtedly a sexual potence. Eros mirroring the mystery of life. The monkey-man death grip. Testosterone burning in the guts. Oestrogen swelling up on the inside.
