As soon as the crew disappeared into the lower parts of the ship to sleep Puffy got to work.

The twinkling stars above her lit up the deck in pinpricks of light while the steady rocking of the ocean tried desperately to knock her off her feet. Even so, she marched across the deck like a steady machine, throwing almost-spoiled meat from their food barrels onto the wooden floor. The smell was rancid and the sound of it slapping against the deck was disgusting, but she knew Foolish wouldn’t mind. And the crew mates wouldn’t notice the absence of a couple pieces of spoiled meat.

As the pile grew steadily she stretched her arms up in the air, taking a deep breath of the freezing air. The bristly feeling of fresh air in her throat was refreshing after so much time in the belly of the ship. Her crew always complained about the darkness of it but there wasn’t much she could do so far from their home.

They’d been out there for weeks with still no sign of land. But they’d stay out for at least a month more. She really hoped that this time they’d find the land they’d been searching for, and it didn’t hurt that this time they had a new “crewmate” following them along. Even if the crew wasn’t fully aware of their new giant “friend.”

Puffy stomped over to the edge of the ship and stared down into the dark churning water. A long winding shadow passed underneath which would scare any reasonable sailor.

But Puffy didn’t become admiral for being reasonable.

“Dinner time!” she whistled before chucking a large slab of beef into the water.

It didn’t even touch the surface before a flash of dark gray scales burst out from the water. All Puffy saw was the reflection of moonlight against jagged teeth before the leviathan disappeared again. The only sign he was still there was the occasional iridescent fin that popped up through the water.

“Still hungry?” Puffy called out as she hauled another large chunk of meat into her arms.

Almost immediately the tip of the giant’s massive tail poked out of the water. Even the tip was easily three times her height, and when it splashed down again small drops of water fell against Puffy’s skin.

The admiral grinned as she stumbled towards the edge with the meat tucked under her arm. When she got close enough she could just barely see the reflective gloss of Foolish’s eyes from under the water. It was weirdly cat-like but she didn’t really mind.

“Got a couple more for you big guy,” Puffy smiled as she pushed the meat up onto her shoulder. Slowly she trudged forward until her chest pressed against the railings. The harsh rocking of the ship didn’t help her catch her balance, but she thought she’d be fine. She was a sailor after all. She was used to it.

Except the storm above them didn’t seem to agree. The moment she felt the meat leave her hands a wave crashed into the ship. She frantically tried to grab onto the rails but the water slammed into her body and before she knew it she was tossed into the sea.

A loud scream left her mouth as water flooded her lungs. She tried to push herself to the surface but ever time she got close a wave would push her head back underwater.

She tried to scream for help but it only let more water into her throat.

She was going to die.

The thought crashed into her like a bomb. She clawed again at the surface, but there was no use. Every moment she spent under the water was a second closer to her death.

There was nothing she could do…And no one was awake.

Slowly, she felt her vision darken as she lost her last breaths of air. She couldn’t even feel her arms anymore, everything felt numb.

That’s when a weight slammed into her sending her flying into the air. She gasped like a fish out of water the moment she hit the surface, feeling the world come back to her like an explosion.

The heavy weight pressed into her chest as she fell back into the water, but this time her head stayed just above the surface. When she looked down she saw giant curved claws wrapped around her chest.

“Oh my- are you okay?” Foolish gasped as two giant eyes peered at Puffy.

The admiral blinked away her confusion as she recognized the person- well, giant- in front of her.

“You saved me,” Puffy breathed before she let herself relax into his massive hand.

“Yeah- yes of course,” Foolish hummed. The scales above his eyes scrunched down at her words.

Puffy smiled and pressed her face against the cold wet scales covering the giant’s fingers. She wouldn’t tell Foolish but part of her had feared that he would mistake her for another piece of meat…She doubted she’d feel much different to him in his mouth.

But even so the giant held her like she’d break at any moment as large concerned eyes bore into her own.

Carefully, she felt herself be lifted until she was dangling far over the water. Foolish nudged his face against her chest before dropping her back down onto the deck of the ship. The feeling of solid ground under her was like a breath of fresh air.

“Are you going to be okay?” the leviathan murmured nervously as his tail wrapped around the side of the boat keeping it steady.

“Mhm,” Puffy nodded. She knew the giant was worried but she was so exhausted she could barely finish her thoughts.

Nearly dying did that to a person she guessed.

“Alright uh okay,” Foolish mumbled, “I’ll stay here just sleep, okay?”

Puffy nodded again before letting her head fall back against the wood. It was nowhere near as comfortable as her bed below deck, but the thought of getting up made her feel sick. The floor would have to do.

Just before she drifted off to sleep she felt a heavy weight rest over body like a blanket. With blurred eyes she saw the smooth tip of Foolish’s tail rest on the deck beside her as it draped over her body.

She wrapped her arms around the thick muscle and within seconds she was out.

The leviathan only unwrapped it’s tail from the ship when the sun rose over the water again.

Puffy and her Giant Son Headcannons

Puffy can only really spend time with Foolish at night since the crew would freak out if they knew a leviathan was following them. Because of this shes usually exhausted when they finally get to see each other. When she’s extra tired the giant will wrap his long tail around the boat to keep it still and just rest his head next to her so she can sleep safely. She also learns pretty quickly that sleeping wrapped up in the leviathan’s tail is much more comfortable than the bed in her sleeping quarters

Even though Foolish can’t show himself during the day time he always follows the ship closely. He’ll push the hull away from rocks and scare off any other monsters that get too close. And every once in a while he’ll let his iridescent fins reach the surface to show Puffy he’s still there

During a bad encounter with a polar whale one of Puffy’s cremates was thrown into the water. The rest of the crew panicked and quickly tried to pull out rafts to save him, but within a few seconds he had been dropped back onboard. No one knew how he got back or what saved him, but he swore he saw “the kraken”. When Puffy tells Foolish about the crew’s stories about him he thinks it’s hilarious

Since the ocean is so infested with monsters, it’s hard for the crew to clean up and have good hygiene. So late at night Puffy will jump into the water with Foolish to clean off. The giant panics and tries to keep her close the whole time, but she just finds it funny. No monster would even dare come near the leviathan anyway, so he doesnt have much to worry about

Puffy figures out pretty early on that the iridescent coral-like fins on Foolish’s head match his emotions. Dark gray and blues mean he’s upset while reddish colors means he’s hunting. However she doesn’t find out what the green color means until much later when he’s resting his head on the deck next to her. She absentmindedly picked off some barnacles from her giant “son” and was surprised when the pale white fins turned into a vivid green. A couple minutes late she worked up the courage to ask about it, and Foolish explained it meant he was really happy

Foolish may be very intelligent but he’s still an extremely prey-driven predator. Sometimes when the crew is fishing off the side of their ship, foolish will bite onto the bait and yank them into the water in the process. Since the only person he’s imprinted on is Puffy sometimes the crew mates will even end up in his mouth before he realizes what happened. He always saves them afterwards, but he just can’t help himself from taking the meat at the end of their hooks. (He also ends up with many scars on his lips from the hooks that Puffy has to remove)

Foolish has “claimed” the boat as his prey with his pheromones. When he explained it to Puffy she was really upset until he told her he had no actual plans to eat the crew. He just marked it with his scent so other leviathans would stay away since taking another giants “food” would be suicide

Foolish headbutts the ship out of affection. The crew just thinks they’re hitting rocks, but Puffy can tell by the shape of the shadow that it’s just the giant

Foolish can make the fins on his head glow which he uses to guide Puffy through rocky waters in the dark.

Foolish struggles to hold things safely with his hands since his claws are so big, so instead he’ll bite Puffy’s jacket and hold her from his mouth

Instinctually Foolish will catch giant fish and drop them on the deck to feed “his people”

ANYWAYS

I lived in Hawaii for 4 years and did a lot of scuba diving and snorkeling. During my time in the ocean, I met a few sharks and found out they really like their noses being rubbed! It's because it's a super sensitive area full of nerves and it feels nice to them.

So what if Puffy started petting Foolish along the bridge of his nose and he just gets super cuddly and sleepy?

At night he’d float at the surface and let puffy lie on his nose to rest. He never thought much of it, it was just a way for him to keep her above the water. But one night while she was laying across his nose she rubbed her hand against the bridge just a bit and immediately Foolish felt like his bones had turned to water.

He became liquid under her touch as his whole body curled up to get closer to the human. And his soft grumbles just encouraged Puffy to keep going. After a few minutes Puffy was trapped under his claws as he pressed his nose against her trying to get as close as he could to the rubs :]

Will there at any point be a time where Foolish has to reveal himself to the entire crew?

Perhaps a hostile ship ends up fighting Puffy's, the other ship is much more loaded to the guns, and Foolish ends up destroying the entire ship in a fit of rage and protectiveness.

He falls into the water again, leaving the broken parts of the other ship to float in the now calmer water and leaving Puffy & (mostly) her crew waiting in baited breath for Foolish to come for them next. He doesn't.

He also doesn't surface to meet Puffy for a few days afterwards, too scared to see her reaction. It's only when she tries throwing herself off the edge of the ship does he come out to talk to her.

(I- wait this is a good story idea... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm :eyes: )

Yes! but I don’t think he’d actually introduce himself to them, he’d be too nervous about their reactions. They’d just live on thinking the monster saved them and then disappeared :]

It would probably be a ship of mimics or raptors if anything since there are barely any other towns on their continent that have a navy, and if they did they wouldn’t be immediately hostile. But it being a ship of giants would just make foolish angrier. Humans attacking his ship would be bad, but giants attacking it sends him into a fit of rage.

He doesn’t even process as he tears their ship into pieces leaving it as nothing more than scrap wood in the water. When he comes back though he feels so guilty for losing himself in front of Puffy and tries to stay away. He still wants to protect her but he can’t bare to see her be afraid of him.

However when she does actually jump in to see him, she’s nothing but worried about the giant. She thought he’d been hurt after the attack and that’s why he hadn’t visited :”]

FG AU puffy just ends up meeting foolish while looking for land on one of her journeys, maybe foolish helps her somehow, so she gives him a chance and after talking a while she realizes he's not dangerous and accepts more help. maybe subconsciously adopts him

She finds Foolish with an injury from a polar whale attack and helps him since she couldn’t stand to see how much pain he was in. She was terrified the whole time since leviathans are extremely dangerous, but he never tried to hurt her

Once the giant’s wounds were cleaned Puffy left only to run into him again a couple days later. At first she thought he was back to eat them until he sheepishly admitted he’d been following their boat to keep other monsters away :] After that it wasn’t uncommon to see a giant tail or fins leave the water next to Puffy’s ship
