Fiat G.55 in German hands.
Fiat G.55 contra B-24
The Fiat G.55 Centauro represented the pinnacle of Italian fighter design in World War II. Fielding two Beda-SAFAT machine guns and three MG 151/20 cannons, one of which was fired through the prop hub, the Centauro was fast, nimble, and hard hitting. Evaluated by the Luftwaffe High Command against the Fw-190 as well as the Me-109, it achieved an evaluation rating as "excellent." As such, it was slated for production in Germany for service with the Luftwaffe. One officer went so far as to claim it the best fighter in the Axis' stable.
