Is it common to have an idea for an AU but when you try to write it down or doodle it out, the idea is reduced to ash, paper-thin against fire? Cause that’s what happened to this-
Guardian angel Senku is sent to help Gen out, but Gen prefers to lie and cheat.
Drabbles??? How about mac and jack and birthdays. Idk. You do what you want with this :))
for you? a GA drabble to prepare you for the next GA drabble <3
Mac doesn’t really know why he thought about it, or even how it popped into his head, but it did. Out of everything that’s distinctly Not Human about Jack, birthdays were not something that Mac ever thought he’d have to worry about.
And he still doesn’t, not really. But he’s curious enough about it that he can’t help himself.
So one night, bad leg stretched out on the couch while one of his hands massages his thigh, Mac asks, “Do you have a birthday?” Mac probably should’ve realized something was off sooner, but given his distaste for his own birthday, the whole celebration thing had just slipped his mind for the past half a dozen years.
“No,” Jack easily replies, as if he was expecting the question.
“What would you have said if I asked you this before I figured out… y’know. You.”
“Picked a random day and stuck with it. Jack Dalton—the actual dude—has a birthday. Woulda just used his.”
“Ah.” Mac swallows. Admittedly, he’s still warming up to the fact that Jack has been parading around in some dead guy’s body.
“Don’t really matter now though, does it?”
Mac nods a few times, glancing between his leg and Jack before settling on the latter. “Do you… want a birthday? To like… celebrate?”
“What’s this about?”
“Nothing. Honestly, Jack, nothing,” Mac adds, rolling his eyes at his partner’s face. “I was just- I don’t know. I know you like being human Or at least human-adjacent. I figured a birthday part might be something that you’re into.”
i have to think more on this because i dont know much about med school except what i’ve seen on grey’s anatomy but here’s what im feeling so far feel free to send your thoughts
aubrey and chloe are Attendings at the teaching hospital, the other bellas are Residents, and Emily and new bellas are interns
aubrey is head of neuro and chloe is head of peds
chloe and kiddos :’)
um alice from pp1 is also there and she’s head of cardio and they always joke that she works on hearts because she doesn’t have one
bumper is a plastics attending
jesse and beca and stacie as Resident Bros
nobody understands why beca is trying to be a doctor
beca wants to do clinical trials about how music affects brain function
jesse is interested in general
stacie can’t decide between trauma and neuro
anyway the new batch of interns come in and jesse is assigned as emily’s resident
beca pulls a Cristina and doesnt remember her interns names, just gives them numbers and is like “whatever, intern 1 go get me a coffee.” they’re all terrified of her. jesse and stacie think this is hilarious
emily and jesse work with stacie and chloe on a patient and stacie is totally smitten with emily
she’s really cute with the kid
beca notices and is like dude you cant hook up with an intern???
and stacie is like ? but she’s not my intern... and you’ve been hooking up with an Attending for months
beca blushes and thinks about yesterday in the on-call room with chloe
stacie totally starts bringing emily coffee when she knows em has the multi-day shifts
emily thinks it’s sweet but doesnt know why the super sexy resident would pay attention to her... a lowly intern
after emily messes up something and almost loses a patient and jesse gets kind of angry with her, stacie finds her crying in the stairwell
she sits with her for awhile then she tells emily about a time her intern year she diagnosed a patient wrong and aubrey screamed her head off at her
the patients lived, that’s why the residents and attendings supervise, so that the patients will still be okay if the interns mess up. we all have to mess up to become better doctors and it’s still scary but then we put our stethoscopes back on and get back to work
emily gives her a watery smile, and stacie kisses her on the cheek and leaves her alone
emily puts her stethoscope back on and gets back to work
they kind of become friends? but flirty friends
(they’re definitely probably more than friends but neither of them do anything about it)
emily walks in on chloe and beca doing it in the on-call room and she squeaks and promptly runs away
stacie tells her she looks like she’s seen a ghost and emily says “not a ghost... just dr beale’s boobs.”
“those are some good boobs,” stacie says and emily laughs
“i didn’t realize so much happened in the on-call rooms,” emily admits
“it doesnt have to be in the on-call room,” stacie replies
“wat” emily says
stacie grins. “let me cook you dinner”
emily frowns. “i’m confused.”
“like what they’re doing in the on-call room, but with dinner. at my place.”
“dinner?”
stacie almost face palms. “a date, dr junk. you and me.”
“oh,” emily murmurs, turning bright red
“just dinner,” stacie says. “if you wanna play doctor after that, then cool, but if not, also cool. maybe we can make out a little if you want to.”
emily is really freakin red. “i want to.”
“great,” stacie beams. “are you working tonight?”
“uh. no. my shift ends at 6.”
“great i’ll pick you up at the elevators at 7, then.” and she breezes away down the hall, leaving emily staring after her
“well good luck with that one,” says one of the nurses who’d been behind the desk they were leaning on. “you’re gonna need it.”

Adrenaline was making the blood roar in Sakura’s ears. Her heart was pounding almost painfully against her ribs, but she ignored it in favor of focusing on the patient open on her table. It was a race against the clock, a fight to keep the tear in her patient’s aorta from rupturing and causing further, fatal damage.
“Dammit! Give me another clamp,” Sakura ordered.
She held her hand out for the tool but her emerald gaze never wavered from the tear she could see threatening to widen in the major artery. With practiced ease, she worked quickly to slow the bleeding before she held out her hand for the stitch that would hopefully keep the artery closed until the patient could receive a new valve.
The first suture was strong but the rest were refusing to hold and she cursed again as she did her best to keep herself and the bleeding under control. One slight mistake, one slight change in her patient’s current condition and they would end tonight in the morgue rather than the ICU.
“Will someone please explain to me what exactly my patient is doing on your table.”
His entrance had gone unnoticed with the desperation of her situation, but there was no denying the icy undertone and smooth, cold fury in Uchiha Itachi’s voice. Sakura glanced up briefly to meet the dark, hard gaze of her boss. He was glaring at her over the surgical mask he held to his nose and mouth but their contact quickly broke as she called for another clamp and resumed her attempted stitching.
“I paged you three times,” Sakura returned, her tone even but relaying her impatience at his delay.
“He was not scheduled for surgery until the morning,” he said. His tone made his authority very clear and she felt her heart beat just a little harder.
“I know. But your patient’s heart started dissecting during an MRI and I can’t get these stitches to hold, so if you’re done pouting at me, I could really use your hands.”
Tense silence met her words. She could feel Itachi’s glare burning into her, but she ignored him as she worked as quickly as she could. The patient was losing blood faster than they could restore it. She needed help and she needed it minutes ago.
Eventually she heard him move. “Let me scrub.”
“You don’t have time.”
She looked up again to meet his gaze as she did her best to silently relay the seriousness of their patient’s condition. He held her gaze for only one heartbeat before he turned to the nurse next to him, his fingers already tying his mask in place. “Gown.”
In seconds, Itachi was gowned, gloved and across the table from her as he took in the damage before him. His experienced eyes were able to trace the line of tearing in the artery and the suturing Sakura had been attempting and failing. He heard her growl quietly in the back of her throat as her latest stitch was unsuccessful.
“Suction,” he ordered.
He accepted the small tube from the scrub nurse and worked quickly to clear as much blood out of the way for her as possible. To his surprise, however, Sakura didn’t continue to suture; instead she set her needle down as she paused.
“If you are unable to finish, let me take over,” he said sharply.
She merely held up a bloodied glove at him. “I’m thinking. Give me a second.”
“This patient does not have a second.”
But she seemed not to hear him as she gazed thoughtfully over his shoulder, her green eyes dancing back and forth as she mentally weighed her options. He was about to take over for her when she glanced at the scrub nurse. “Do we have nylon stitches?”
“Yes, doctor.”
Her eyes brightened with the answer. “Good. I need it.”
The nurse quickly got to work making it ready for her, but Itachi’s gaze only narrowed at the doctor across from him. “Nylon stitches do not hold for long in a heart.”
“I know,” she said, returning her gaze to him. “But this aorta can’t handle steel sutures in its current condition. Every time I throw a stitch, it tears. I’m going to have to double-up.”
His brow furrowed thoughtfully as he returned his gaze back to the task at hand. It was possible she could get the sutures to hold with a double stitch, but she would have to work fast in time to keep the nylon from breaking and to prevent further tearing of the valve. They had already wasted enough time.
“You complete the nylon suturing and I will follow behind you with the steel,” Itachi said, gazing up at her.
Sakura’s brow arched curiously. “Can you throw a left-handed stitch?”
He was on the wrong side of the table to be able to use his dominant hand, but he merely smirked at her behind his mask as he shot her a challenging look. “Can’t you?”
Her eyes narrowed in amusement, but their contact was broken as she accepted the nylon stitch from the scrub nurse. Itachi handed off the suction to another assistant before he too took up a suture, and together the pair got to work.
##
A soft sigh escaped Sakura as she rubbed at her shoulder absently. She tried not to slouch on the bench provided in the Attendings’ Changing Room, but after heading such an intense, high-energy surgery, she couldn’t help the slight hunch of her back as her body came down from the adrenaline high.
It had been a long night. She needed water, food and sleep – all in that order. The soles of her feet ached, but she was used to the pain and almost welcomed it, knowing that the soreness meant that her energy had been well-spent attempting to save the lives of complete strangers.
“Nice work in there, Haruno.”
Glancing towards the doorway, she found Itachi leaning against the frame, his arms crossed loosely and his expression calm but otherwise unreadable. He easily stood an entire head over her and nearly took up the entire doorway. The gown he had worn in the operating room was gone, leaving him in the dark blue scrubs that identified him as an attending. It showed off his lean form. He was muscular but not overly so, and she tried not to notice how the coloring of the material accentuated the long, raven-colored hair he had pulled back in a low ponytail at the nape of his neck or how it brought attention to his striking, obsidian gaze.
He had come to work for their hospital nearly a week earlier and though he was the new Head of Cardio and her new boss, they’d had little interaction since he had started. It turned out her best friend and an attending in general surgery, Yamanaka Ino, had been right. He was stunningly gorgeous. Even more so without that cool demeanor all the nurses kept chatting about.
She could only assume the rumors of him being a Cardiac Genius were true as well. There had been gossip about his many achievements over the years, and though she hadn’t yet had time to confirm or familiarize herself with his history, if half of it were true, she knew there was a great deal she could learn from him. It wasn’t every day that a member from the legendary Uchiha family came to their hospital.
“Thanks,” Sakura smiled tiredly as she fought her yawn. She must have been going on hour thirty of her shift.
“A heart dissection is very hard to catch and even harder to prevent,” Itachi murmured. His voice was low with the lateness of the hour but it easily carried across the room to her. “If I may inquire, how many cases have you seen in the past?”
She frowned thoughtfully at his line of questioning and shrugged. “Somewhere around thirty.”
“And how many have you saved?”
It was a moment before she answered. “Including the one today, two.”
Her answer weighed heavily in the room. They were both well-versed in cardiac conditions and knew the high fatality rate of the surgery they had just performed. It was even more extraordinary they had come out successful given the obvious exhaustion etched into Sakura’s face, and Itachi felt a sudden swell of respect for the young doctor in front of him.
He had spoken to her in passing only a handful of times since the beginning of his employment within the hospital and though he had heard the rumors of her skilled hands and quick-wit, he had chosen to reserve his judgments about her until he had witnessed them himself. He was pleased to find the attending lived up to the stories.
“I received a call some hours ago from UNOS,” he said, recapturing her attention. “They have a heart for the critical patient upstairs. It should be arriving in the morning. Would you care to join me in the OR at 0800?”
As all surgeons did, she perked up at the invitation of a high-profile surgery and the slight slouch to her shoulders straightened as a smile spread across her face. “I’d love to.”
“Excellent. Get some rest and I will see you in the morning then.”
Pushing off the doorway, Itachi turned to leave only to pause as one last thought occurred to him. “Oh, and Haruno?” She glanced up at him expectantly, her smile still lingering. “Speak to me like that in an OR again and I will bench you for a month.”
Her excited expression vanished. She wanted to point out that he was the one who was late in responding to an emergency page as she battled an impossible surgery but she bit her tongue as she met his gaze with hard, emerald eyes. She said nothing.
With a single nod, he turned away. “See you in the morning.”
He then exited the room, but not before he heard her annoyed mutter: “Ass.”
His steps faltered, but he didn’t turn back to her as he made his way to the surgical board. It wasn’t until he was halfway down the hall that he realized a smirk had taken up residency upon his face.
Normally Itachi would not have let such a remark made by one of his subordinates go so easily, but he had been quite impressed with her work today and he found her unwillingness to bend to him refreshing from his previous attendings, all of whom had either worshipped the ground he walked on or steered clear of him like the plague. It seemed there was more to Haruno Sakura than her pink hair and cheerful smile, and so he would allow her to get away with her insult; but he was going to thoroughly enjoy pushing her to her limits.
for @bold-and-nosy because your asks keep me inspired for this fic (GA AU) <3
Slipping into a human body feels distinctly wrong.
Something that they were never meant to do.
He. Something that he was never meant to do, because now he’s that. A human. Taking the name of the dead thing seemed easiest, so he’s that too, now. Jack Dalton.
And the worst thing about being Jack Dalton is how warm it is.
It’s disgusting, actually. Everything that has to do with this newfound body is warm. Everything that comes out of it, half the things that go into it, they’re all disturbingly hot and moist and even the air itself isn’t what they’re used to.
What he’s used to. Jack Dalton.
It takes longer to get used to than Jack Dalton is expecting. Ideally, he wouldn’t have to even do this in the first place, but his human is getting suspicious. That’s the problem with watching over the smart ones. Or maybe not just the smart ones, but the ones that are constantly looking over their shoulder, determined to find something that would explain their suspicions. The fact that his human is working with and against spies doesn’t help Jack Dalton’s job one bit.
Thus, the human suit.
The warm and moist and squishy human body.
It marks his skin crawl, which is something that Jack Dalton now actually has. Equally as weird and squishy as warm, for the record.
But it’s a necessary discomfort. Jack Dalton needs a way to prevent Ellen MacGyver from stumbling off of the sidewalk into a car that shouldn’t even be there in the first place, and there’s no better way to prevent that than blending in as another human. A good Samaritan.
The car is only speeding because Fate wanted it that way, but it’s one of her lesser tricks. Easily avoidable—she probably just does it to mess with them.
Him.
Jack Dalton.
The thought of being like a human is nauseating—another feeling that Jack Dalton can now experience—and he wants nothing more than to go back to who he was before.
Just a thing.
An entity in a world that otherwise wouldn’t know he exists. It’s much, much more comfortable that way.
So, after he saves Ellen MacGyver and gets this awful, suffocating feeling out of his human chest, the plan is to ditch the body.
@saintsurvivors this isn’t even your fault but im still blaming you anyway because i i don’t know why
Jack looks down at the kid. The baby. Still squirming in a onesie inside of a crib. Not yet old enough to be considered a kid.
The crib is familiar.
Jack watched behind Ellen as she and her husband slowly constructed the nursery. He caught a screw before it fell to the ground and forced Ellen to bend down to retrieve it. Ensured that she didn’t do any of the heavy lifting.
It’s been months, and Jack still pauses when Ellen comes into view. The urge to check her, up and down, to make sure nothing is wrong. Something about old habits and something else—Jack’s heard the human idiom a few times.
But she’s supposed to be a distant memory at this point. Something that Jack doesn’t need to focus on. She’s no longer Jack’s concern, and it’s high time that he forgets about her.
The baby squirms again. Hands balling into teeny tiny fists, eyes scrunching up. He’s not comfortable. But he doesn’t cry.
Jack’s surprised.
Humans cry. Especially infants. It’s the only way that they’re able to express anything, so Jack certainly can’t blame them. Communication is finicky.
But the baby in the crib doesn’t cry, which means that no one is going to notice his discomfort.
It’s been hours since Ellen or her husband has checked up on the kid, and Jack knows that it’s going to be hours more. The parents are downstairs, each working. Blissfully unaware that their own child is experiencing discomfort.
The baby’s eyes squeeze a little tighter, head falling to the side as he squirms a little more.
Giving an oh-so-human sigh, Jack frowns.
He’s not here to be a babysitter, no matter what jokes he’s made before.
He’s here for explicitly life-saving.
Got a stern talking to when he didn’t follow those directions with Ellen.
And the baby is most definitely alive. Uncomfortable, but alive.
Still, it pains Jack. Not in the way that he’s bound to a specific human, the way that he can feel their hurts before the humans’ brains can comprehend them, but somehow different. It hurts him in a way he’s not really familiar with. Like an aching where he’d normally feel a human having a heart attack.
Jack doesn’t even need to check to know that the parents aren’t going to fix whatever it is that’s bothering their child.
It isn’t strictly life-saving, but Jack still reaches out. Barely touches the baby’s fist with his first finger, pausing when he uncurls those little fingers and wraps them around Jack’s offered appendage. The entire fist barely reaches up two knuckles, but the grip is stronger than Jack was expecting.
Slowly, and far too quiet for anyone else in the house to hear, Jack begins to hum.
Some song that he heard a million times because Ellen had a cassette tape she listened to every day when she drove to work, and this song was the second one on side one. Jack’s heard it at least twice every day for months.
The song itself doesn’t mean anything to the baby, Jack knows that much, but maybe it’s the soft humming that calms him down. Whatever the case may be, the squirming stops, and his other hand slowly uncurls until it’s back to five small fingers attached to an open palm.
Though the one holding onto Jack’s finger stays tight.
When he falls back asleep, Jack will take his finger back. Disappear back to a place where humans can’t see him. Can’t comprehend him.
