Misattribution
A while ago, someone (I forget who, sorry) posted a scan of an excellent article from In Dublin from 1986, in which Dermot muses on the nature of comedy and his experiences of it as a profession.
I always found it particularly delightful that the paper decided to highlight quotes from the article as captions to photos of the author's comic characters. Thus it's implied that excerpts from Dermot's thoughtful and erudite analysis of culture, the TV industry and the philosophy of comedy were actually uttered by Father Trendy and GAA Man:
Fr Trendy's "quote" is weirdly appropriate - it's completely believable that the media-friendly priest would go through a painful learning process and conclude that television was the answer. But there's no way that the patriotic hurling dervish would wish for any involvement with the British networks, comedic or otherwise. No wonder he looks pissed off...
