The air smelled of smoke and ash, the earth beneath her was cold and damp. Ava turned, fighting against the strong grip of darkness that tried to lure her back into a state of unconsciousness. She could not remember, neither where she was nor how she got her. The young witch felt as if her mind was filled with a dizziness, a mist that could not be lifted. She groaned as she forced her eyes to open. She knew this smell, knew this energy. But whatever she tried, she could not force herself to truly wake up. Lying there, surrounded by a circle of burned leaves Ava took one breath after the other, slowly regaining her ability to think, her mind raising its head from slumber. “Help”, she whispered.
