Walking with a heavy gait, Gabriel had set himself the goal of finding a nearby gas station or kiosk to buy more cigarettes. He had run out of his last one earlier than afternoon. He wore his hoodie over his head as he made his way down the sidewalk, his clunky work boots disturbing puddles leftover from the downpour that had happened only a few moments ago. He didn’t see many people out – or any for the matter – until he turned a corner. “Excuse me?” his voice came out a little raspier than usual since he hadn’t spoken since his brief interactions at work earlier that day, “Miss– excuse me?” Gabe called after the woman, reaching to pick up the wallet from the sidewalk and looking back up to see if the blonde would realize him calling after her.
